Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor - Addiction Recovery Program
Job Summary:
Provides individual, family, and group counseling in relation to the treatment and recovery of substance abuse using a multi-disciplinary team approach treatment with emphasis on the disease concept of addiction, Twelve Step recovery program and relapse prevention; prepares clients for re-entry into the family and community maintainingsobriety and self-sufficient life style.

Counseling Responsibilities (70%)
Supervises assigned clients' treatment from intake orientation through completion of treatment; supervises client progress in meeting treatment objectivesand supports clients in compliance; orients clients to program rules, procedures, and expectations; charts client group attendance; prepares weekly and monthly progress reports.
Works in a multi-disciplinary team approach in order to motivate, modify, and otherwise prepare clients and significant others in the recovery process.
Develops individualized treatment plans and maintainsupdated revisions of each plan in relation to the progress of each client; ensures that treatment plans address the physical, emotional, vocational, social, and spiritual needs of each client with identified time limits and measurable objectives.
Works with clients individually to enable them to have a better understanding of their situation and improve competence in problem resolution and coping skills.
Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
Prepares and maintainscase records and logs on all assigned clients; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same; enters pertinent information into the established Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
Prepares and maintainsstatistical records on all services provided; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Prepares case presentations for the supervisor; prepares and presents cases directly to any Coalitions, funding bodies or Case Conferences as directed.
Performs recordkeeping duties to ensure that all expenditures are properly recorded and submittedto the Billing and Finance Supervisorand Program Manageras appropriate forsubmission to grantor.
Social Services Responsibilities (10%)
Assesses client needs for additional services, bus passes, clothes vouchers, medical referrals, for dual diagnosis clients; completes warehouse requisitions for clothing; checks medication and refers clients who are low on medications; signs-off on case record review for documentation placed in file; provides clients with forms, level transition sheet, attendance sheet, weekly pass request forms, etc.
Reviews attendance record to determine if clients are meeting group requirements; checks client privilege pass request sheet to determine if clients when through proper procedures to obtain weekend pass; examines weekly pass request prior to issuing passes; checks work hours, business hours, walk hours, privilege pass hours prior to completing passes; verifies client employment prior to completing weekend passes; monitors Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous on a walk or privilege passes.
Coordinates services with other community agencies to ensure positive treatment outcomes for client; consults with Probation/Parole Officers and Case Managers; provides referrals to social service agencies and medical institutions/professionals; updates same about client program compliance.
Other Responsibilities:
Maintains community contact with appropriate agencies for additional and supplemental services and referrals which will assist in meeting the needs of each client.
Provide on-call coverage as needed for client and program needs.
Attendsscheduled staff training and educational workshops.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment when addressing and resolving substance abuse matters.
Skill in counseling and ability to utilizevarious counseling theories.
Ability to maintainthe security of confidential records.
Ability to rendercompetent casework service.
Ability and willingness to be involved in the Twelve Step program is strongly encouraged.
Ability to comprehendprocedures for maintainingcase files within contract compliance.
Ability to develop program plans and goals based on client needs.
Ability to evaluate the client's progress toward program goals.
Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Educationand Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, one of the Behavioral Sciences, or related field,
And
Twoyears progressively responsible experience in a licensed substance abuse treatment program,
Or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications:
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English languageeffectively.
Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple casesat the same time.
Ability andwillingness to conductall duties in accordance withthe ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Limited amount of physical effort requiredassociated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in a normal office within a shelter environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
