Position Type:     Special Events Assistant

About this opportunity: Serves as a host for special events by providing exceptional customer service to guests. Sets tables; decorates event rooms; sets-up and breaks-down tables, chairs, and other food service event equipment. Supports preparation and serves meals and snacks in accordance with established requests, guidelines, and schedules; supports the kitchen staff and performs routine tasks to ensure all meals are served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans dining facilities, fixtures, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • Represents the Kroc Center at various internal events, parties, conferences, programs, etc.; maintains a positive and professional relationship with members and visitors as a representative of The Salvation Army.
  • Provides security checks during events and reports any issues to the supervisor.
  • Cleans and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods.
  • Serves food and beverages in a presentable manner; prepares plates for individuals requiring additional assistance.

What we are looking for in you:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • One year experience working in a customer service-related position with food prep experience.
  •  Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to cook, taste and smell food. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Duties are performed standing and requires squatting, climbing, bending, and walking. Any of the preceding duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions: Work will normally be performed in a kitchen environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in temperature associated with cooking and the kitchen environment.
