Pay Range: $74,718.90 - $83,000/Salary          

About this opportunity:

This position is responsible for the general direction of the National Capital Area Command (NCAC) Regional Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant – Accounts Receivable/Emergency Assistance Funds performs general accounting and financial statement reporting functions and is responsible for the following: Execution of double-entry bookkeeping tasks that require advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of full cycle accounting. Application of fundamental bookkeeping knowledge and skills to varied tasks such as posting in the general ledger, checking entries, balancing accounts, and preparing financial reports for assigned accounts. Utilization of principles of accounting to record and analyze accounts receivable, accounts payable, income and expense transactions prior to entry into the NCAC general ledger. Preparation, review, and maintenance of financial records in an accurate, complete, and timely manner while ensuring the integrity and security of Salvation Army financial accounts. Production of accurate financial statements and essential reports on a timely basis, that comply with organizational policy, public accounting standards and government regulations. Review and preparation of monthly adjusting and closing general ledger entries for all emergency assistance programs and related accounts/funds, and Reconciliation of financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field from an accredited college or university
  • AND
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of general ledger accounting experience in a staff accountant (or similar) role. Must be proficient with double-entry fund accounting, with the ability to perform all of the following functions with minimal supervision: A/R, A/P, Bank reconciliation, and financial reporting.
  • AND
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience utilizing an ERP/institutional accounting system or software (Great Plains Dynamics preferred).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Incumbents may, on occasion, be asked to work beyond traditional business hours during seasonally busy periods characterized by high volume of donation income or emergency assistance requisition processing.
