Job Summary
Consults with management personnel to coordinate activities that lead to the operational success of the Adult Rehabilitation Center’s (ARC) Thrift Stores; engages supervisors and administrators by providing onsite visits, regional and command-wide training, development and distribution of policies and procedures; develops and maintains an up-to-date vendor contact and price list; participates in the development, improvement, and distribution of analytical tools to review the effectiveness of store operations; consults with management in developing and reviewing store design and set-up; Assists, handles and follows up with Centers as needed to ensure compliance of property inspections.
Production and Property Functions: (70%)
Develops, writes and distributes standard operating procedures for the Thrift Store operations of the ARC; maintains and updates manuals and standard operating procedures, as needed.
Develops training material and presents material to ARC retail employees to include, but not limited to Store Supervisor, Thrift Store Managers, Cashiers, Floor Clerks, and Warehouse Personnel, as needed; consults with management to reinforce training and answer questions related to operational procedures and best practices.
Consults with management personnel regarding areas of improvement; develops or suggests various internal and external training for areas of improvement.
Travels to various Centers to provide training and recommendations to management regarding store set-up and designs.
Performs measurements of the store space and create an itemized fixture list based on the needs to create a budget.
Consults and provides recommendations to management regarding new Thrift Store design, set-up and modifications to existing Thrift Stores set-up and designs.
Provides recommendations and guidance for adjustments in the production process and effectively communicates the rationale for the adjustments to all levels of the production team.
Review and update new and improved methods to deliver and support training objectives.
Review and update reports that help the ARC Command Finance Board, field Administrator and field Store Managers to acquire greater insight to overall store sales.
Reviews and updates analysis reports to identify positive trends at Centers that can be duplicated at other Centers to increase store sales; identify negative trends that can be improved upon and corrected at the same.
Organizes, compiles, revises and updates information to create a Grand Opening Manual that provide detailed step-by-step instructions for successful store openings
Summarizes property inspection details for ARC Command Finance Board review and follow up with Centers on needed repairs; creates check requests for submission to Territorial Headquarters (THQ) Property department; notifies Centers of outstanding requisitions confirm payment request.
Vendor Research and Recommendations: (20%)
Research vendors for store fixtures and store equipment; recommends vendors with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness; establishes and maintains relationships with vendors
Reviews and revises vendor information to provide the most up to date, cost, quality, and delivery information to Centers; maintains a current vendor.
Reviews and approves Center requisitions including, but not limited to, store fixtures and store equipment.
Reviews monthly Rags Report and maintains a list of all buyers; provides the field with a current average rate of bales sold and an updated list of buyers on a quarterly basis.
Event Coordinating: (10%)
Coordinates and assists in the planning of ARC events to include, but not limited to, The Salvation Army Bible Conference, ARC Production Conference, ARC Command events, as assigned.
Compiles and creates all invitations, programs, schedules, delegate lists, correspondences, resources, and materials pertaining to assigned events.
Communicates with internal and external vendors regarding lodging, meals, schedule, billing, contract, and other conference logistics.
Communicates with ARC Officers regarding their delegation and accommodation requirements and preferences; provides necessary information and resources of the same.
Coordinates and handles room assignments for all Centers based on requirements and preferences.
Reviews vendor contract, invoice and billing statements for accuracy; prepares a billing statement for distribution to each Center and the ARC Command overall; provides billing statements to ARC Command Finance department.
Compiles presentation resources and distribute to attendees; creates a post-conference survey and compiles results.
Maintain a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers, and management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Intermediate knowledge of Excel Spreadsheets, formulas and manipulation of data in Excel. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Knowledge of standard record keeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store layout operations. Knowledge of various store fixtures and equipment and their proper use. Ability to build interpersonal relationships and work effectively with line employees and management. Ability to maintain the confidential nature of personnel related information. Ability to successfully interact with a variety of personalities, to include, but not limited to, co-workers, peers, subordinates, management staff, vendors, customers, and beneficiaries. Ability to read and comprehend manuals and written instructions in English. Ability to successfully communicate with line employees and management in written, verbal and presentations. Ability to organize and maintain files. Ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous projects and events.
Education and Experience
Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or a related field, and five years of multi-unit retail sales and/or merchandising experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of work time and move or carry medium objects (typically less than 50 lbs.) 25%-50% of work time.
There may be occasions where heavy items (50 to 100 lbs.) may need to be pushed or pulled 10% or less.
Work is most often performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Work involves occasional travel to various locations in assigned region where there may be physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, heat, cold and other associated issues.
