Location: The Salvation Army Thrift Store – Clemson, SC

Position Type: Hourly

Pay Range: $9.95

About this opportunity:

Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures; hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
  • Packs items boxes and marks boxes accordingly, assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area; lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
  • Prepares non-suitable clothes for the baler.

What are we looking for in you:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred And
  • One year experience working in a warehouse preferred OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Knowledge of general building maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully communicate, both verbally and in writing, in the English language.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers
  • Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervisor.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Moderate physical efforts required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).

Work is performed in a normal warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
