Building Maintenance Worker & Maintenance Technician, Full-time, Memphis Area Command, Purdue Center of Hope & Kroc Center Locations
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Building Maintenance Worker and Maintenance Technician (full-time) for the Southern Territory, located in Memphis, Tennessee.
Job Summary
Performs variety of skilled maintenance work for buildings and grounds including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tool, and practices used in at least two of the HVAC, building, electrical, or mechanical trades.
Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, construction, and air conditioning equipment for both residential and commercial buildings.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the trades involved.
Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.
Ability to follow instructions and work with little or no supervision.
Ability to use a computer and related technology for communication and work orders.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D Two (2) years course work from a technical or vocational school in construction, heating, ventilation and air conditioning as well as pluming and electronics,
And
Three (3) years’ experience performing maintenance and repair work for commercial building and ground,
Or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License
Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification Program, Type II or Universal (Preferred)
Package Unit Troubleshooting Certificate (Preferred)
Forklift and Arial Lift Operators Certificate (Preferred)
Pool Operator Certificate (Preferred)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements;
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language;
Ability to use/operate various equipment, hand saw, table saw, router, wire cutters, planer, wood lathe, electric drill, ladder, joiner, drill press, hammer, gauges, shaper, sanding machine, screw drivers, HVAC and electrical tools, etc.;
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects;
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing;
Ability to lift moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently and (50-100 lbs.) occasionally;
Ability to work off ladders at heights of 0 to 30 ft.
Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
