Job Summary
Receives, sorts, prices, tags, packs, and distributes donated items for shipment to the Family Stores; ensures all donated items are unloaded and processed in an efficient, effective, and timely manner in accordance with established Salvation Army policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations; serves as a liaison to the Store Supervisor and makes certain the stores receive needed merchandise.
Checks dock for repairable, re-useable and re-sellable merchandise; e.g. mattresses/frames, rugs, carpets, cribs, daybeds, bunk beds, tables, chairs, household appliances, furniture, etc. If minor repairs are needed, directs to appropriate shop for repair, and ensures that repair costs do not exceed the value of the merchandise.
Sorts merchandise into designated categories based on type and condition of merchandise; separates damaged items to be discarded and/or sent to the AS IS AUCTION or compactor. Cleans glass and mirrors, pictures, collectibles, and other similar types of merchandise; polishes wood furniture, and makes sure all other furniture is repaired and cleaned where possible.
Researches prices of various products such as furniture, pictures, etc. Prices and tags all merchandise, household appliances, furniture items, etc. based on their type and condition before shipping to stores. Keeps abreast of price trends and store sales; ensures that items are fairly priced based on market prices and The Salvation Army standard procedures.
Coordinates with Store Supervisor and/or other management officials regarding the merchandise needs of stores including but not limited to household appliances, furniture, beds, clothes, bric-a-brac, etc. Places merchandise and furniture in proper staging areas for outgoing stores. Coordinates with Warehouse Management the shipment of items to all stores on a daily basis and in a timely manner.
Completes daily delivery manifests of store deliveries listing items, ticket number, price and date
distributed; maintains copies of these manifests in a filing system that can be easily understood by others who need to reference the system; keeps an inventory of the furniture tickets sent to the stores and match the tickets when sales are completed.
Keeps abreast of the safety standards of all merchandise leaving the warehouse and shipped to stores; wraps glass for tables, places masking tape on glass with ticket numbers to match up the item; places screws, nuts, and bolts in plastic bags and tapes to mirrors or furniture for proper attachment to merchandise; ensures furniture tickets, tape, and other supplies are in stock and in sufficient quantity.
Maintains a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to sort merchandise based on established categories. Ability to inspect donated items and determines reasonable and fair prices. Ability to clean merchandise and furniture in accordance to policies and procedures. Ability to research prices of antique furniture. Ability to keep abreast of price trends. Knowledge, skills and ability to successfully communicate in the English language.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred, and experience working in a warehouse or retail establishment sorting and pricing merchandise and furniture or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to use a ticketing machine, converter belt, and bailer. Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner.
Moderate physical effort required associated with lifting and carrying 25 to 50 pounds of merchandise, materials, and supplies on a frequent basis. Must be able to push or pull heavy loads, 50 to 100 pounds, of merchandise, materials, and supplies on an occasional basis. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and some climbing.
Work is usually performed in a warehouse environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in the weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
