Housing Monitor
Location: The Salvation Army Center of Hope, Gulfport, MS
About this opportunity:
Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that shelter is maintained in a neat and proper order.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensures that all apartments are in proper order before and after arrival of residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order.
- Assists with the checking in of clients into the cold weather shelter; prepares and monitors client intake cards; prepares resident roster and maintains resident property records.
- Prepares dorms for cold weather shelter; distributes towels, linens, and personal hygiene items for cold weather shelter.
- Monitors the activities of the transitional housing residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.
- Monitors all guests entering the building and ensures activities and conduct are in keeping with the transitional housing rules and Salvation Army policy.
- Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Opens and closes the transitional housing doors at designated hours of operation.
- Performs housekeeping duties for the Center of Hope and the transitional housing facilities.
- Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the transitional housing operations.
What we are looking for in you:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year experience performing security work or working in a social service environment, OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible.

Additional Information: Position is 19 hours per week, 2pm – 10pm.
