Pay Range: $22.86 - $26.06/hour
About this opportunity:
This position is responsible for plans, directs, coordinates, manages, and monitors the administration of all Fairfax Corps social service programs including emergency services, seasonal programs (Thanksgiving, Angel Tree, WAFF, WSSC, BG&E, summer youth camp registration, etc.), crisis intervention counseling, referrals for emergency living accommodations; administers and manages emergency financial services like rent, mortgage, utility, food, clothing, and furniture assistance; supervises all social services program volunteers as applicable, ensures work is in compliance with established policies and procedures; develops, implements, and enhances programs to effectively meet the needs of the community; administers the program budget and secures or assists to secure local funding for programs; writes local grant proposals and/or coordinates with NCARS Development Department staff in developing grant proposals; ensures program operations are in compliance with grant/contract agreements; represents The Salvation Army at relevant community and/or issue coalition meetings and serves as leader in the community by performing public speaking and promoting program services. This position may require some evening and weekend work hours.
Key responsibilities:
- Designs and manages all emergency assistance programs which may include interviewing clients to determine eligibility, process paperwork, etc. in order to provide services and maintain own case load of clients as necessary based on staffing patterns
- Supervises, plans, assigns, coordinates, and monitors the work of all volunteers working for the Social Services Program; instructs and trains volunteers in the proper methods and procedures
- Supervises, plans, assigns, coordinates and monitors the work of all volunteers working to register families for the Angel Tree Christmas assistance program;
What we are looking for in you:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field AND
- Four years progressively responsible experience administering social service programs OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Bilingual/Spanish-speaking is greatly preferred.
- License in Social Work preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to perform public speaking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. There may be times where the job requires outside work i.e.: attending a community event etc.
