Job Summary:
Accepts and processes residents staying in a housing facility overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift, ensuring compliance with house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that the shelter living area is maintained in neat and proper order.
Essential Functions:

Residential Monitoring: 85%
Ensures that all rooms are in proper order before the arrival of residents.
Performs intake for clients checking into the COH program; maintains an accurate record of daily bed list.
Turns away clients who are barred, intoxicated, not current on tuberculosis tests, or otherwise ineligible for shelter accommodations; attempts to refer ineligible clients to other shelters for accommodations.
Records any unique situations occurring on assigned shifts.
Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiate appropriate corrective actions following established policies and procedures.
Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists, including but not limited to HMIS;
Wakes up clients at the designated time and instructs them to collect their sheets; ensures that all residents are out of the housing facility by the specified time.
Other Responsibilities: (15%)
Assists clients with information as appropriate.
Assists families with laundry services once a week.
Participates in staff in-service training program, as directed.
Collect and wash all dirty towels (2nd shift wash and 3rd shift dry). Washes sheets as needed when Laundry personnel need assistance.
Directs clients to appropriate agencies for their particular needs.
Completes daily checklist and records all activities in the Monitor’s Logbook.
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D.
And
one year experience performing security or social service work preferred,
or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses:
None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
Knowledge of basic record-keeping practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients in order to control, lead, and motivate behavior.
Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.
Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
Limited physical effort is required for walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a transient lodge environment where physical discomforts may be associated with temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and/or dust under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.
