JOB SUMMARY:

 

Accepts and processes residents staying in a housing facility overnight; monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules; maintains accurate and complete records and logs containing pertinent information; ensures that the housing facility is maintained in a neat and proper order; cooks breakfast and dinner for clients each day.

Answering the telephone during your shift

 

Admitting clients to the shelter during your shift using intake policies and procedures

 

Monitoring building activities during your shift by watching the camera monitor.

 

Making rounds of the building checking all rooms- bed check

 

Complete and incident reports when someone is asked to leave the shelter or if police are called remove a resident from the building. The report should include a full explanation of the situation, persons involved, dates, times and how the incident was resolved; the incident report should be given to the Corps Officer the morning following the incident.

 

Fill in for sick or vacationing monitors as necessary.

 

Preparing & Serving dinner and breakfast for residents/ homeless as needed.

 

Inspect shelter and dormitories daily as requested by your director.

 

Keep accurate records of lodging, meals, ect (Monthly stats due on Monday following the last Sunday of the month)

 

Storing and labeling personal belongings of residents leaving the shelter

 

Daily clean dormitories, bathrooms, kitchen, lounge area and washing/ drying of linens as needed.

 

Ensures that all rooms are in proper order before arrival of residents.

 

Prepares and distributes meals; distributes towels, linens, and personal hygiene items.

 

Monitors the activities of the residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules; checks the security of all windows and doors; monitors cameras and makes periodic rounds of entire facility; records any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.

 

Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.

 

Opens and closes the house doors at designated hours of operation.

 

 

Completes required paperwork representing client intake for the day; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists.

 

Answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the housing operations.

 

Wakes up clients at designated time and instructs them to collect their sheets; ensures that all residents are out of the  housing facility by the designated time.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Assists in preparing and serving meals to residents as well as cleaning kitchen and dining area afterwards if Shelter Cook is unavailable.

 

Collects dirty towels and sheets, placing in front of washer, and washes all dirty towels and sheets if Shelter Cook is unavailable.

 

Cleans, sweeps, and mops the lobby, dormitories, family room, and dining area; empties trash cans and replaces trash liners.

 

Directs clients to appropriate agencies for their special needs.

 

Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High school diploma or G.E.D.

 

and

 

one year experience performing security or social service work preferred,

 

or

 

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

None.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.

 

Knowledge of basic record keeping practices and procedures.

 

Ability to communicate effectively with clients in order to control, lead, and motivate behavior.

 

Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.

 

Ability to work independently and with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action.

 

Ability to enter client information and statistics into the computer in a timely manner.

 

Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.  Distance of travel is usually within the same building.

 

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work is performed in a transient lodge environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and/or dust under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.
