About this opportunity: Plans, develops, schedules, coordinates, facilitates and monitors a variety of educational, recreational, and spiritual development activities, events, and trips for the children, young adults and seniors; builds and maintains a positive relationship with the children, youth, parents and seniors; builds relationships with other agencies, as well as, seeks to find those in the community that could also provide leadership to Salvation Army programs; prepares and maintains program records; assist in maintaining facilities, equipment, and grounds.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensures that teachers have lesson plans completed in a timely manner; assists teachers as they administer activities for school age children; ensures that activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun and safe for the children; locates supplies for teachers to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.
  • Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same; maintains accountability and inventory of all recreational equipment; monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for center operations; recommends and submits purchase requests to the supervisor for approval.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements Citadel Corps and Red Shield Family Center programming to include After School programs, summer day camp programs, community center programs, music programs, senior programs, Christmas programs, and special activities.
  • Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.

What we are looking for in you:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with an associate degree from an accredited college or university preferred,
  • Two years’ experience teaching child development programs,
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and follow all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed standing and walking and relieved by periods of sitting to perform other duties. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
