JOB SUMMARY:

Interviews applicants for Christmas Assistance, reviews documentation and evaluates eligibility within The Salvation Army guidelines for assistance; enters application data into the computer system to provide all necessary information for The Salvation Army records and Angel Tree donor tags; assists in preparation for distribution, including sorting, labeling and organizing gifts as needed.

Greets and interviews clients for Christmas assistance in a cheerful and helpful manner. Monitors Hot Line calls and responds to needs appropriately.

Reviews client’s eligibility for Christmas assistance based on program guidelines and restrictions.

Enters application data into the computer database system in an accurate and efficient manner.

Assists in preparing gifts for distribution, including sorting, labeling and organizing gifts. Assists with other Angel Tree program duties as assigned.

 

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 H.S. Diploma required and some college preferred in social work, psychology or sociology,

 

and

 

One year of experience with data entry and interaction within a customer service or social services setting,

 

or

 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Texas Driver’s License

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol and organizational structure.

Knowledge and proficiency in use of personal computers.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to sort and alphabetize documents and files.

Ability to interact with a diverse population on a daily basis with compassion and patience.

Ability to type data into computer data base accurately.

Ability to sit at computer and enter data for long periods of time.

Ability to work with clients in a professional manner.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability and willingness to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Duties are usually performed at a desk working on a computer.

Ability to sit for long periods of time entering data. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment.
