Athletic Director 

Job Summary:

 

Plans, coordinates, and directs all youth athletic programs for the Boys & Girls Club; plans and coordinates fund-raising and recruitment events; recruits and supervises volunteer staff; maintains all program equipment; represents the Club in the community and builds a professional and positive image of The Salvation Army.

 

Essential Functions:

Plans and coordinates baseball, basketball and football teams, tournaments, and leagues as well as cheerleading squads; plans and coordinates daily practices of the same.

 

Teaches players conduct of good sportsmanship; instructs players in Boys & Girls Club rules.

 

Promotes participation in the Corps athletic activities in order to encourage safety of the community youth.

 

Recruits and coordinates all volunteer staff assisting with programs; serves as Coaching Director to the volunteer coaches.

 

Maintains accountability and inventory of all sports equipment and uniforms, repairs equipment and washes uniforms.

 

Serves as Transportation Director for in-city and out-of-state events; drives Salvation Army vehicle to transport youth to athletic events.

 

Coordinates all officials, referees, and/or umpires needed for sporting events.

 

Maintains basketball court floors; mops and buffs floors; lines and cuts football field; drags and marks the baseball and football fields; ensures the proper maintenance of the same to ensure readiness for sporting events.

 

Coordinates team fund raisers to raise money for events, trips, or projects.

 

Prepares and submits weekly reports of activities and attendance.

 

Orders basketball, football, and baseball equipment; orders trophies for tournaments and leagues.

 

Administers first aid when needed.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Conducts recruitment visits in the community.

 

Plans and coordinates summer camp programs.

 

Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of sporting event planning and management.

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and fund-raising.

 

Knowledge of sport related injuries and prevention.

 

Ability to serve as an athletic coach and too coordinate athletic games.

 

Ability to repair and maintain sporting equipment.

 

Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers including volunteer team coaches.

 

Ability to promote and encourage good sportsmanship.

 

Ability to promote the Community Center and to recruit youth participation.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to perform heavy lifting.

 

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

 

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

Education and Experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field,

 

And

 

Two years’ experience participating in and coordinating sporting events,

 

Or

 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Certifications:

 

Valid State Driver’s License

First Aid and C.P.R. Certification

 

Physical Requirements:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to perform heavy lifting.

 

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.

 

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Working Conditions:

 

Work is performed in a indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
