Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Director of Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs under the direct supervision of the Area Commander/Corps Officer/Area Director, the Boys & Girls Club Director provides leadership, direction and support to the advisory board/council in developing organizational goals, attaining/allocating and managing resources, and establishing local Club operational policies, in conjunction with DFB approval. Provides leadership and direction to staff management and partnership development in carrying out the key roles. Attains and allocates resources, establishes policies, community relations and membership administration. In partnership with Area Commander/Corps Officer, builds and grows Club capacity to have the greatest mission impact on youth; implements program services which advance the mission of The Salvation Army.

Supervisory Oversight Responsibilities (40%)
Provides leadership to Branch manager through the establishment of goals, objectives and procedures; develops administrative and operational standards by which goals will be met.
Recruits, oversees and provides career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. (Human Resources Development)
Instruct and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures for conducting work; monitors work in progress and upon completion for compliance with established program policies and procedures; works with area corps officers & club directors to conduct performance evaluations and makes salary and hiring/firing recommendations.
Assures attainment of resources necessary to ensure the Club programs can be funded.
Write specific measurable goals and objectives for each year of the plan based on internal and external data regarding youth, parents, and funders and data gathered through the Boys & Girls Club of America Self-Evaluation process; ensures the plan supports and advances the direction, mission, and requirements of the Boys & Girls Club movement and The Salvation Army. (Strategic Planning)
Assures that the organization is in compliance with membership and other requirements or standards of Boys and Girls Clubs of America, United Way and other affiliated and regulatory agencies.
Provides professional leadership to Commanding Officer’s to assure development of an effective and motivated Advisory Council/Committee, including identification, recruitment, training and involvement of members in meeting the goals of the organization.
Works with the Nominating Committee who researches, selects, and recruits Advisory council/committee members who are recognized community leaders who influence community decisions and financial resources; ensures that the Advisory members reflect a diversity of the community in gender, race and leadership roles in the community.
Establishes, updates, maintains, and enforces written standards of expectations for Advisory council/committee members regarding meeting attendance, committee service, and individual assignments; ensures that all Advisory Council/Committee volunteers actively participate in their defined Council/Committee responsibilities
Implements strategic planning process resulting in development and implementation of quality strategic plan; identifies and evaluates plan for improvement and implement plan. (Innovation)
Manages Club financial resources assisting in the development of annual budgets; controls expenditures against budget.
Ensures administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club, including use of facilities by outside groups. (Management)
Directs and participates in public relations and fundraising activities; conducts public relations activities during Boys & Girls Club week; publicizes the Youth of the Year Program and participation in National Programs such as Keystoning, Smart Moves, Sectional Tournaments, etc. and participation by staff in Training and Conferences.
Promotes Boys and Girls Club services to individuals, other service organizations and the local community.
Informs Clubs of Boys and Girls Club funding, meets with Area Directors, Branch Mangers as needed. Assists Area Commander/Corps Officer with planning of training conferences, assist with annual inspections and program reviews as needed.
Ensures a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
Work collaboratively with Area Commander/Corps Officers/Area Directors and Branch Managers to develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations. (Collaboration)
Work collaboratively with Area Commanders/Corps Officers/Area Directors and Branch Managers to develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and Community.
BGC Program Management Responsibilities (30%) (Achievement Focus)
Monitors and approves the organization’s program services and assures achievement and advancement of its mission and goals.
Establishes programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
Plans, develops, implements and evaluates Branch overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests; compiles regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation. (Project Alignment)
Collects all statistical information for all grants, licensing, and Divisional and Territorial requests in a timely manner; prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.). (Data Management)
Responsible for the accuracy of the weekly data for each Club site that is put into the Divisional Membership Tracking system.
Other Responsibilities:
May be assigned special projects periodically by the Area Commander/Corps Officer/Divisional Director of BGC.
Maintains contact with Divisional Boys & Girls Club Leadership, Corps Officers, Advisory Organizations, Committees, Club staff and volunteers.
Leadership role in organization’s Safety Committee and serve as a key player in the development of institutional policies, procedures, and practices ensuring that the organization and all unit Clubs are in compliance with local, state and federal safety requirements and the Membership.
Maintains contact with potential and current donors, external community groups and others as required.

Ability to supervise, lead motivate and influence the staff and patrons of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Ability to develop and implement promotional and fundraising activities to enhance the outreach and financial efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Ability to enforce the Boys & Girls Club rules and to resolve conflicts among patrons visiting the Club in order to ensure the safety of all patrons and staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services
and
Five (5) years’ progressively responsible experience in the management, administration and operation of a Boys & Girls Club, with at track record of at least two years in a leadership capacity of a Club organization with a budget up to $500,000
or
Seven (7) years’ experience working in a similar youth-service organization,
or
any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications:
Valid Driver's LIcense
Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within established time frame)
Tier 2 BGCA Trainer Certification or ability to obtain
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing including the providing of clear instructions to employees.
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation.
Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
Ability to drive a vehicle for extended trips.
Combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.
Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like .
