GENERAL SUMMARY
The Adjunct Instructor works to facilitate a course(s) in the curriculum of Auguste Escoffier School of
Culinary Arts (AESCA), focusing on student success, identifying and proactively assisting at-risk
students, and collaborating with internal teams to achieve academic results. Through their subject matter
expertise, they deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction with attention to each student in their charge.
Instructors encourage a culture of learning that values mutual respect, lifelong learning, ethical behavior
and personal and professional development. Courses taught by the Adjunct Instructor may be part of one
specific program of study, or they may include students from a cross-section of multiple programs with
similar course requirements. As such, the Adjunct Instructor is keenly aware of their audience and tailors
their teaching to meet the needs of their students.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Engages students to facilitate learning and achieve course learning objectives utilizing best
practices for adult education and maintaining academic integrity within the classroom
● Coaches struggling students both independently and by partnering with others to create success
plans to assist at-risk students.
● Utilizes professional and respectful communication with students and team members, providing
outstanding customer service to both external and internal customers.
● Relates professional experience to learning through introduction of industry perspectives into
course(s) and maintains active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.
● Provides added value beyond the baseline course materials, actively owning the course
information and providing personal insight into the subject matter.
● Adheres to scheduled timelines for specific outreach, communication, feedback and task
completion as outlined by the Academic Leadership Team.
● Attends scheduled meetings, workshops and faculty meetings each term
● Supports the Academic Leadership Team with course or program related tasks and inquiries
● Supports the Registrar’s Office in maintaining accurate student records
● Other duties as required or assigned


QUALIFICATIONS
● Associate Degree in applicable occupational area or completion of an accredited training program
plus 2 years full time equivalent experience (4,000 hours) employment experience in the
occupational teaching area, or
● If no formal education in the are has been attained, a minimum of 5 years full time equivalent
(10,000 hours) employment experience in the occupational teaching area
● Previous teaching experience preferred
● Certified Executive Chef (CEC), Certified Pastry Chef (CEPC) or other applicable industry
certifications per subject matter preferred

● Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google applications, video conferencing and others
DAILY SHIFT REQUIREMENTS
Adjunct Instructors will complete a minimum of 8 hours on campus each day to include:
● Arrival at least one hour prior to the start of the scheduled teaching shift, in full and appropriate
uniform (Escoffier Chef’s Jacket, Black Pants, Black-Kitchen-Safe Shoes, Solid White T-shirt
under Chef’s Jacket, Chef’s Toque and Issued Apron
● Finalize grading and attendance entry before leaving campus, but outside of the scheduled
classroom hours;
● Hosting a minimum of 2 posted office hours per week (when teaching a full course);
● Attendance/participation in faculty meetings;
● Welcome students to class and wish students well upon the conclusion of class - offer thanks
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard office equipment. This role requires significant
computer, video conference and/or phone work daily which may include sitting for long periods of time.
Required to lift up to 20 pounds.
