Distribution Engineer
Summary:
The Distribution Engineer is primarily responsible for the cost-effective conceptual and engineering solutions to upgrade, expand, maintain and automate overhead and underground power distribution systems for our utility clients using various software systems and construction standards. The Distribution Engineer ensures compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements and safety code requirements. The Distribution Engineer will work closely with engineers performing transmission and communication design.
Work will require performing engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, fault currents, placement of protective devices, development of bills of materials, and estimating costs. Work assignments may include traveling to various project locations to conduct field investigations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers; You can also expect to assist in the oversight and quality assurance of your team's design work.
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes; You will interact frequently with our customer
- Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
- Be comfortable in a field setting: You may also be asked to visit a customer office or participate in fielding activities on an ad hoc basis.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Experienced engineers may also have the opportunity to lead and train other engineers and perform QAQC responsibilities.
