Sr Claims Consultant

Our finance team is currently seeking a Sr. Claims Consultant in our Worcester, MA location. This position can accommodate a Hybrid work schedule. This is a Full Time/Exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for reinsurance claims, preparing notifications for qualifying losses, and analyzing loss data to improve reporting and processes. The Sr. Claims Reinsurance Consultant will prioritize claims based on claim aging information, refine their understanding of reinsurance treaties, and provide technical expertise across business functions. Partnering with business units, this role will gather loss information, develop reinsurance strategies, and interpret complex coverage issues. Additionally, this role will lead special projects and apply knowledge to loss activity.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Prepare formal notification to reinsurance markets and brokers for all losses that meet established reinsurance claim reporting criteria.
- Analyze loss data for gaps in reinsurance reporting and advocate for data improvements and process changes for improved performance.
- Actively analyze claim aging information to ensure effective prioritization of reinsurance claim handling and advocacy.
- Refine and develop understanding of the application of direct claims to all reinsurance treaties across the enterprise.
- Provide technical expertise across business functions understanding the relationship between the businesses and the data and technology that support them. Partner with business units to understand and obtain information on losses impacting them.
- Matured understanding of corporate reinsurance objectives and evolving trends and patterns within the reinsurance industry. Develop plans in support of changing internal and external reinsurance strategies.
- Demonstrate claim expertise to others, including reinsurance contract interpretation, treaty and facultative loss application, and complex coverage identification and resolution.
- Apply understanding of the legal environment and the effects it has on direct and ceded loss activity.
- Lead special projects within the reinsurance department.
- All other duties as required.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or certification specialized training or equivalent work experience.
- Typically requires five to eight years of experience in a property and casualty claim environment.
- Preferably three to five years of experience in a direct claim or reinsurance claim handing environment, or equivalent technical experience.
- Requires technical aptitude and experience / understanding of insurance business operations and requirements, as well as insurance and reinsurance coverage knowledge; prior claim experience is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with automated claim systems is beneficial. Requires knowledge and understanding of business products, business processing systems, data retrieval and manipulation and financial impact of function.
- Ability to understand applicable legal statutes, regulations, and industry case law.
- Ability to manage multiple daily tasks while maintaining strict adherence to monthly deliverable deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication to internal and external partners.
