The Hanover Insurance Group is looking for a sales-minded and collaborative Senior Underwriting Specialist to develop agent relationships and grow our Allied Healthcare book.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Senior Underwriting Specialist will prioritize and effectively manage identifying, soliciting, underwriting, and selling new and large renewal Specialty accounts leading with GLPL coverage for Allied Health Facilities, Home Health Care, & Pharmacies, drive profitable growth, apply analytical skills to provide insurance solutions that help Hanover’s customers manage risk. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Hanover’s strategies and appetites and will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions. Operates with limited daily supervision, seeks technical direction for matters outside one’s authority and general expertise. Operates within a standard letter of authority for all underwriting decisions while managing a book of business, generally with moderate to high technical complexity and coordination.
The Senior Underwriting Specialist is expected to maintain a thorough understanding and knowledge of Allied Healthcare admitted and non-admitted products and to sell and underwrite the unique features of these products. They will work closely with Healthcare leadership and respective field colleagues to execute business plans.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Underwriting Allied Healthcare new business and large complex renewals, leading with GLPL coverage, but may include package, property, and auto policies.
- Proactively engage with agents on new and renewal business.
- Working collaboratively with Healthcare Leadership in areas including competitor benchmarking, customer feedback, risk appetite, and other pertinent underwriting issues.
- Participate actively in team meetings to discuss risk quality, flow of business, renewal strategies and agency management issues.
- Staying current with Allied Healthcare underwriting strategies related to appetite and pricing.
- Recognize and solicit cross-sell opportunities on new and renewal accounts beyond Allied Healthcare capabilities, ensure account is handled appropriately across all coverage lines.
- Utilizes market and competitor information to enhance relationships and individual account decision making; shares market/competitor information internally to enhance product offering.
- Operates within scope of Letter of Authority for all underwriting decisions.
- Completes file documentation according to best practices guidelines.
- Provides clear and concise rating instructions for quotes prior to generating proposal for presentation to the agent.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years Allied Healthcare professional and general liability underwriting experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of Allied Healthcare underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage implications, pricing and loss analysis resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
- In depth knowledge of coverage specifics to Allied Healthcare risks.
- Ability to understand competitor’s product offering and communicate Hanover differentiators to agents.
- Ability to manage workload to meet goals and service standards, while following workflow protocol.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to service and agency partners; high level of responsiveness.
- Able to build and maintain close working relationships with Agents, underwriting assistants and field sales representatives, demonstrating strong relationship building, teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Maintains a consistent, high level of productivity.
- Acts resourcefully to ensure that work is completed in keeping with specified time and quality expectations.
