Actuarial Consultant (REMOTE)

Our Personal Lines Actuarial team is seeking an *Actuarial Consultant to join our growing team in Worcester, MA, Hartford, CT or Howell, MI in a hybrid work arrangement, or remote work location.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Actuarial Consultant role within the Personal Lines Actuarial state pricing team is responsible for leading ongoing analysis of results for all personal lines of business in 2-3 states. The personal lines state pricing team supports lines of business that comprise roughly $2B in annual earned premium.
As an Actuarial Consultant, you will work independently on difficult assignments. You will prepare analysis then present results to business partners and management along with recommended action. You may own or participate on advanced analytics projects. You will provide guidance to Actuarial Analysts in the fulfillment of their duties and development of core actuarial knowledge. All of this while actively pursuing your professional actuarial designation with the support of our Actuarial program.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Have ownership of actuarial rate indications and actuarial assumption updates for assigned states
- Lead meetings in which you effectively communicate technical analysis along with recommended actions to business partners and upper management
- Own the development of rate recommendations in collaboration with business partners
- Independently prepare system specifications to implement required rate actions
- Monitor and analyze profitability and provide thoughtful recommendations to business partners
- Analyze mix of business and collaborate with field leadership to understand relevant activities and trends
- Collaborate with other Personal Lines state pricing teams in projects enhancing our countrywide performance tracking and analysis
- Incorporate industry and other external benchmarks into analysis
- Initiate and/or participate in process improvements to streamline existing tasks or improve the actuarial work product
- Develop leadership skills and provide coaching, mentoring, and/or technical guidance to junior team members; may begin to take on supervisory responsibilities
- Provide actuarial support on routine insurance department inquiries as needed
- Understand the assumptions and calculations of your models and work product
- Be able to connect your work product to The Hanover and Personal Lines specific strategy
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant technical field
- Three to five years of experience
- Four or more Casualty Actuarial Exams
- Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Possesses intermediate programming skills (SQL, R, VBA)
- Understands fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to core actuarial discipline
- Able to influence decision making and actions needed
- Applies project management skills to schedule, organize, and complete assigned tasks accurately and on time
