Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland’s most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It’s like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC’s 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.

Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.

The Role

As a Youth Programs Lead, you will take on a pivotal role in developing, coordinating, and overseeing a range of exciting Youth Programs such as classes, camps, and special events for children ages 7 to 18. Reporting directly to the Youth Programs Manager, you’ll ensure that our programs are delivered in a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment while upholding the club’s high standards for service, safety, and cleanliness. You’ll have the opportunity to foster positive relationships with children, parents, and staff, all while encouraging both physical and social development through structured, age-appropriate activities.

This is a part-time, fully on-site role at our club in Portland, OR.

What You’ll Do

  • Program Leadership: Plan, implement, and lead weekly classes, camps, and special events, ensuring all activities meet the developmental needs of youth participants.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Act as a point of contact for parents and participants, providing exceptional service and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere from arrival to departure.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce club safety policies, manage behavior in accordance with best practices, and stay up-to-date on child safety recommendations.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling, registrations, and maintaining the Youth Programs’ budget, as well as providing administrative support such as preparing seasonal guides and content for social media.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Youth Programs Manager to train, supervise, and provide feedback to Youth Programs Leads and Attendants, ensuring program success and adherence to club policies.
  • Event Coordination: Coordinate events, ensuring all logistical needs are met, including organizing materials and handling reservations, registrations, and cancellations.
  • Professional Development: Actively participate in staff training, monthly emergency drills, and regular performance reviews to enhance both personal and team growth.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting, particularly in planning and leading programs, is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) to manage various tasks and document interactions.
  • Certifications: First Aid/CPR certified and must complete Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training within 90 days of hire.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry children and equipment up to 50 lbs, and perform physical tasks associated with setting up and cleaning up program spaces.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A warm, approachable attitude, excellent customer service, and the ability to foster positive relationships with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Commitment to Safety: Must adhere to all safety protocols and effectively respond to any incidents or emergencies that may arise.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work Monday-Friday from 1:30-6:30pm with occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
