Job Summary:

The Residential Learning & Development Specialist will create, develop, arrange, implement, and conduct training and development programs for residential staff to maintain licensure requirements and to become a trauma informed, anti-racist facility that values authentic youth partnership.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, social services, human resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of youth residential treatment experience
  • Certified in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention/Crisis Prevention Institute preferred
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention/Crisis prevention Institute trainer preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate tenants of Trauma Informed Care and Authentic Youth Partnership
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective training and development
  • Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and complete accurate record keeping
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software
  • Able to successfully complete the train-the-trainer program for de-escalation and crisis intervention models such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention/Crisis Prevention Institute as well as CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Able to provide trainings and coaching on 2nd and 3rd shift, as needed.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach and model de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques, including how to initiate and supervise safe restraint practices. Relate practices to the philosophy of care and the living environment to support team members and residents.
  • Coach staff regarding appropriate procedures for managing resistance to de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques in the residential environment.
  • Support staff with the implementation and daily use of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques by being present in the work environment and responding to calls for general assistance. Provide coaching and support during and after the initiation of holds.
  • Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques for adult learning, which results in new knowledge, skill and practice.
  • Supports delivery of other orientation and on-boarding programing in coordination with the learning and development team as well as residential leadership.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling classes, setting up equipment, coordinating enrollment and maintaining record of training activities.
  • Facilitate CPR training for new team members and existing staff.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) according to organizational practice to ensure that training efforts are well coordinated, and the tool is used to its best advantage for the benefit of the residential training and development programs.
  • Use reporting tools in the LMS to conduct audits on required training and works in partnership with compliance, HR, and residential leaders to ensure 100% completion of required trainings within required timeframes.
  • Monitor and demonstrate fidelity to training models and curriculums.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities such as training needs assessments, analyzing training data, developing annual training plans and strategies, and contributing to the creation and review of training policies and procedures.

  • Training Delivery: deliver informal and formal learning solutions in a manner that is both engaging and effective; able to manage the learning environment, prepare for training delivery, convey objectives, align learning solutions with course objectives and learner needs, establish credibility as an instructor, create a positive learning environment, deliver various learning methodologies, facilitate learning, encourage participation and build learner motivation, deliver constructive feedback, ensure learning outcomes and evaluate solutions.
  • Residential Knowledge: understands the unique culture of residential settings; able to teach staff ways to respond to crisis; articulate the mission and vision of The Centers and Cleveland Christian Home; partner with residential leaders for culture change.
  • Youth Voice: advocate for authentic youth partnership.
  • Interpersonal Skills: able to build trust, communicate effectively, network and partner and influence stakeholders.
  • Organization and accountability: able to organize and carry out both instruction and administrative tasks related to training. Able to complete work independently and with high fidelity.
