Counseling Intern-Residential Services
Summary
The Counseling intern will be responsible for shadowing and providing psychotherapy services including mental health assessment, treatment planning, individual psychotherapy sessions and family sessions as well as Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services- groups to residential clients.
This position is eligible for the Ohio Higher Education Great Minds Fellowship for those enrolled in a participating school.

Description:
Interns will initially be shadowing Child Mental Health Therapists on the residential units to observe processes and will be provided with a small caseload when ready and at the discretion of the Clinical Manager. Sessions are conducted at the Cleveland Christian Home’s residential facility. Clients referred for residential services are considered high-risk and the goal of treatment is to create stability and assist the youth with addressing mental and behavioral health challenges in order to develop skills to return to the community. Clients may be involved with the legal system and frequently experience problems related to depression, anxiety, trauma, suicidal ideation, and/or substance use. Interns will be expected to reach out to, develop relationships with residential staff and coordinate with Children Services workers, probation officers, school staff, families or significant others and community supports to provide the best services for clients.
The Residential program has a close working relationship with other programs offered by The Centers and opportunities will exist to shadow out-patient art therapists, substance use counselors, and other mental health specialties. Interning in the Residential Service program will provide interns experience with a wide range of therapeutic interventions and client issues that will allow for rapid growth and preparedness for working in the field after graduation.
Responsibilities and duties:
1.Mental Health Assessment shadowing and completion of MHA upon task supervisor awareness of preparedness and understanding of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.
2.Individualized treatment plan development.
3.Maintain a client case load completing psychotherapy and/or Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services- groups in accordance with educational body requirement and expectation based on supervisor evaluation of preparedness
4.Attend and participate in regular supervision sessions a minimum of one hour per week.
5.Attend group consultation team meetings as available.
6.Complete agency documentation of The Centers clients in accordance with ODMH and best practices standards.
Qualifications:
Education: will have a bachelor degree in psychology, social work, sociology, art therapy or related field. Must be actively enrolled in a master’s degree education program in counseling.
*Will have completed course work in diagnosis, theories, group process
* Will obtain and maintain a CT status while working with clients
*Will demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
*Will work cooperatively with other team members following The Centers values system
