Behavioral Health Registered Nurse Supervisor
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health Operations and the Chief Behavioral Health Officer, and acting within the established scope of practice, the Behavioral Health RN Supervisor [BH RN Supervisor] oversees the implementation of SYHealth’s Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder services and supervises the clinical team. The BH RN Supervisor conducts patient mental health and medical triages, injectable medical appointments, initial assessments and coordinates all health and psychosocial services required by Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder patients accessing services at SYHealth. Maintains patient records, participates in case conferences and quality improvement activities; attends and participates in training and networking meetings. The BH RN Supervisor oversees the role of other RNs under their supervision, conducts trainings and provides oversight to Medical Assistants assigned to them. The BH RN Supervisor cultivates open communication through interactions and meetings with Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder Prescribers and providers so as to ensure the workflows for patients and clinical team is streamlined.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Oversees day-to-day operations and provides overall supervision and management of the assigned staff of Behavioral Health RN and Medical Assistant team.
- Responsible for training, supervising, evaluating and disciplinary actions for clinical team direct reports, including RN/LVNs and medical assistants. The RN Supervisor will also have key input and support hiring of new staff.
- Responsible for coordinating coverage for pre-planned and same day absences for MA and RN coverage, in coordination with department leadership.
- Performs telephone and walk-in patient mental health and medical triage to assess healthcare needs, evaluate patient symptoms and provide appropriate medical advice for treatment and/or recommendations for escalating treatment to a medical provider.
- Administers medications per provider orders.
- Evaluates and submits reports for sites assigned during internal or external audits.
- Provides patient education related to disease process, medications, treatment, and prevention.
- Serves as liaison between Transition of Care team, HIV and other specialty programs as required.
- Conducts clinical quality improvement and evaluation activities by supporting implementation of quality improvement projects and completing quality assurance for staff documentation. Completes other CQI activities as directed by Behavioral Health Department Directors and Behavioral Health RN Manager.
- Assists directors and manager with practice transformation and implementation of team-based care, including key input as needed in BH Huddle and other treatment team meetings.
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly narrative and/or statistical reports as requested for their specific work area.
- Supports BH leadership in maintaining and updating policies and procedures for Behavioral Health RN and MA roles and supports implementation of new procedures.
- Ensures that appropriate documentation for all assigned tasks is entered in EHR and all other data system used in the Behavioral Health Department. Monitors quality and timely completion of documentation of direct reports.
- Spends at least 50% of their time in direct clinical work. Available for cross site coverage as needed by team.
- Participates in all multi-disciplinary meetings, daily huddles, SYHealth staff meetings, and selective staff development trainings, as directed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains ability to provide coverage as needed for sites and manages time off requests for assigned staff so as to be able to maintain effective coverage for all roles at the different clinics they oversee.

Job Requirement
Experience Required:
- 1 year of supervisory/lead/charge RN experience
- 1 year of clinical nursing experience
Experience Preferred:
- Behavioral Health clinical experience, working in the community health care setting.
Education Required:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
Education Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science, Nursing (BSN)
Certifications Required:
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification (American Heart Association)

- Prolonged, extensive, and considerable standing/sitting/walking/lifting.

Universal Requirements:
