The ancestors of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation existed many centuries ago as a community of people…a Tribe living together, farming, hunting and fishing to survive.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for analyzing and posting accounting transactions into the general ledger and preparing balance sheet account reconciliations and month-end analysis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)

1.    Ensures the integrity of financial data by preparing reconciliations of General Ledger Accounts, maintaining supporting documentation and completing general ledger entries.

2.    Performs analysis of gaming and accounting functions for different casino areas including analysis for variances, gaming hold percentages, general ledger accounts and other required functions.

3.    Assists with month-end closing by preparing monthly recurring standard entries, preparing supporting Balance Sheet account schedules and reconciliations and participating in and reconciling month end inventories.

4.    Ensures general ledger accuracy by researching and reconciling errors, reviewing current general ledger procedures, developing and recommending changes as needed, reconciling accounts, routinely monitoring, analyzing, and adjusting journal entries, collaborating with other departments concerning errors or questionable entries, and monitoring, updating, and processing allocation entries on a monthly basis.

5.    Updates and prepares operational and statistical reporting for casino departments.

6.    Ensures accuracy of daily revenue reports by summarizing the reported daily revenues, verifying totals against the general ledger and system generated reports, maintaining analysis of data, and distributing the information to appropriate department management following established procedures.

7.    Maintains accounting controls by researching, interpreting and updating accounting policies, procedures and regulations to ensure they are in compliance with regulatory requirements, investigating and documenting variances, preparing findings and informing appropriate personnel, interacting with internal and external auditors, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations.

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience:

Essential:

·        Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field

·        2 years of general accounting or equivalent combination of education, training or experience

Desirable:

·        Gaming and/or Hospitality accounting experience

Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

·        Working knowledge of GAAP and G/L account analysis

·        Proficiency in computerized accounting systems

·        Proficiency in Excel spreadsheet applications

·        Ability to communicate effectively in the English language

·        Ability to apply knowledge and make sound judgments

·        Ability to interact effectively with a diverse team member population

·        Ability to provide guidance and instruction to clerical staff

·        Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations

·        Ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner

·        Ability to maintain professionalism and composure

·        Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions

·        Ability to accept constructive criticism

·        Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and assignments

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity

·        Ability to use 10-key by sight or touch

·        Record-keeping and organizational skills

 

Desirable:

·        Working knowledge of Accounting General Ledger software

·        Working knowledge of Casino Gaming software

·        Knowledge of Food and Beverage POS software

·        Knowledge of Hospitality Management software
