In this exciting role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious performance-enhancing meals that meet the dietary needs of elite athletes!

 

Chef- Sports Nutrition

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Chef to lead the kitchen operations for our professional sports team training facility and sports academy. This role will focus on preparing nutritious, balanced meals to support the athletes' performance, recovery, and overall health. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating and delivering menus that cater to high-performance athletes, emphasizing healthy, organic, and locally sourced ingredients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Menu Development: Design and develop seasonal, performance-driven meal plans in collaboration with nutritionists and team physicians to meet the dietary needs of 50-200+ professional sports players and young athletes in the sports academy.
  • Nutritional Focus: Ensure all meals provide the optimal balance of macronutrients and micronutrients, keeping in mind the specific needs of athletes, such as energy levels, recovery, and injury prevention.
  • Food Preparation and Presentation: Prepare, cook, and present meals in an aesthetically appealing and appetizing way, ensuring variety and creativity in dishes while adhering to health guidelines. 
  • Leadership:  Assigns work duties to the culinary team to optimize operations.   Monitors team member performance and provides coaching, feedback and discipline when necessary.  Develops and trains culinary  team members to ensure their continued growth and development.  Creates a positive and engaging work environment for team members.
  • Special Dietary Requirements: Cater to individual dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, and specific nutritional requirements (e.g., gluten-free, vegan, low-carb, etc.).
  • Inventory Management: Source, order, and maintain a stock of fresh, high-quality ingredients. Manage food costs and minimize waste.
  • Hygiene and Safety: Ensure all kitchen operations meet local health and safety standards. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen at all times.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the club’s medical team, nutritionists, and strength coaches to adjust meals according to game schedules, training loads, and recovery plans.
  • Policies and Procedures: Adheres to policies and procedures established by Sycuan.
  • Event Catering: Provide catering services for team events, matches, and promotional activities as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chef, preferably in a sports nutrition or health-focused setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • ServSafe Manager Certification

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of nutrition and how it affects athletic performance.
  • Culinary degree or relevant certification.
  • Experience in meal preparation for large groups.
  • Passion for health, wellness, and sports.

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Excellent culinary skills with a strong understanding of healthy, performance-based meals.
  • Ability to design varied and creative menus that are both nutritious and delicious.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Multi-lingual

Working Conditions:

  • Must be flexible with working hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Work in a fast-paced environment where high energy and passion for food and health are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with professional athletes or sports teams.
  • Certifications in sports nutrition or a related field.
