Position Title: Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician
Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Job Summary:
The Electric Vehicle Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on electric vehicles (EVs). This role requires a deep understanding of EV systems, including battery management, charging systems, and electric drivetrains. The position supports the company's commitment to advancing sustainable automotive technology and delivering high-quality service to customers.
Essential Functions:
- Diagnose and repair issues related to EV-specific systems, such as batteries, charging equipment, and electric motors.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on EVs, including inspections of electrical components, software updates, and system calibrations.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot EV-specific issues.
- Conduct battery health checks and perform repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Assist in the installation and servicing of EV charging stations.
- Drive vehicles to assess performance after repairs or modifications have been completed.
- Move vehicles within the shop to facilitate efficient workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
- Follow all federal, state, and local regulations governing EV service and repair, including Cal/OSHA standards.
- Collaborate with other technicians, parts associates, and service advisors to ensure seamless operations.
- Participate in team training sessions to stay updated on advancements in EV technology and repair techniques.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including wearing protective gear when required.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years’ experience as an automotive technician with exposure to EV systems or equivalent training in EV technology.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; if out-of-state, a California driver’s license must be obtained within 10 days of employment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training programs related to EV technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a certified technical training program specializing in electric vehicle technology (e.g., National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation [NATEF] certification).
- Strong understanding of EV systems such as battery management systems (BMS), high-voltage components, and electric drivetrains.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools specific to EVs (e.g., OBD-II scanners for EVs).
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stretch, and work in various positions for extended periods while performing repairs or inspections.
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and small parts associated with EV systems.
- Capacity to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Environment/Noise:
- Work primarily in a well-lit repair shop with exposure to high-voltage components requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Occasional work outdoors or in confined spaces when servicing vehicles or charging stations.
- Regular exposure to potential hazards such as electrical currents and chemical contaminants associated with battery systems; protective gear will be provided.
