Description Summary

Plans and coordinates human resources activities and staffing at the plant level.  Performs HR activities like screening, recruiting, interviewing and placing workers in various plant departments.  Completes pre and post-offer employee verification requirements, including, but not limited to, background checks, drug screens and employee file creation.  Monitors and tracks all employee leave time, such as FMLA, sick time and vacation.

Principal Duties And Responsibilites

  • Prepare or maintain employment records related to events, such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using human resources management system software. 
  • Interpret and explain company policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations to plant employees.
  • Hire employees and process hiring-related paperwork.
  • Manage document retention for employee profiles for plant employees.
  • Host job fairs when needed for recruiting purposes.
  • Assist HR Payroll Administrator in implementing and tracking disciplinary points system.   
  • Assist in implement corrective actions like write-ups, suspensions, and training recommendations.
  • Inform job applicants of details such as duties and responsibilities, compensation, benefits, schedules, working conditions or promotion opportunities. 
  • Investigate and address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints or other employee concerns.
  • Assist employees as needed with the benefit enrollment process.
  • Complete data entry for employee absenteeism and provide weekly report to Plant Management.
  • Complete data entry for employee turnover and provide written report regarding employee turnover and any related information to Corporate HR monthly.
  • Provide employee and payroll information to Plant Management or Corporate Management as requested.
  • Provide other information such as staffing, labor, indirect labor, roster, etc. to Plant Management as needed.
  • Provide keycards to employees and track personal protective equipment (PPE) given to each employee.
  • Create incentive programs for employees in collaboration with Plant Management.
  • Handle any unemployment claims or hearings. 
  • Make sure federal and state posters are posted and up to date.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
  • Follow Sugar Creek Packing Co. safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. 

Experience: 3-5 years in HR Generalist Position preferred, preferably in a plant-style setting.

Certification or Licensure Requirements: HR certifications preferred but not required. 

 

Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills Required

  • Possess excellent organization and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Able to read and comprehend printed and electronic information.
  • Able to use computers with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR software.
  • Able to work collaboratively with plant personnel, departments and management
  • Know company standards, concepts, practices and procedures and be able to explain them.
  • Able to respond to emergency situations quickly.
  • Possess strong leadership skills, independent thinking, organizational skills and planning abilities.
  • Know how to relay complex information effectively in order to train employees in all company-related rules and procedures.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred 

 

Other Requirements

No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with administrative positions.  Most physical activity will consist of standing/walking during the day and sitting at a desk.  Other light physical activity may be required occasionally on an as-needed basis, such as walking up stairs or carrying items weighing less than 20 lbs.  Some travel between plants is required.

 

Work Enviornment

Most work is performed in a comfortable indoor, office-like facility.  Some work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Some departments are colder temperatures between 30° and 40° F. Safety wear is required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats and other necessary equipment.
