DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Controls Engineer will lead corporate wide projects to optimize, upgrade, and enhance the control systems of our manufacturing equipment. Primary focus of this position will be to implement a world class Manufacturing Execution System for collecting and analyzing machine data to monitor production processes and identify improvement opportunities. Leads equipment optimization projects to maximize product quality and equipment Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Upgrades equipment control systems as required to enable automatic collection of relevant manufacturing data.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Specifies, procures, and completes projects to automate production processes, improve machine controls, and implement machine data reporting systems.
  • Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Drafts and submits budget proposals.
  • Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path.
  • Communicates project expectations to team members in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Delivers progress reports, proposals and required documents to Management as necessary.
  • Assists Plant Engineers with projects and maintenance programs at each facility.
  • Follow Sugar Creek’s safety rules and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree (electrical or computer engineering preferred) or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE: 5 or more years of experience as a Controls Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE: None required.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 5+ years of PLC programming experience utilizing Rockwell and/or Siemens controllers.
  • Experience with Controls, Manufacturing and SCADA MES systems was well as setting up systems that communicate via OPC.
  • Experience implementing shop floor automation, manufacturing execution systems, and shop floor networks. 
  • Comprehensive programming experience including HMI, RFID, and PanelView.
  • Networking experience with Ethernet, DeviceNET, and Remote I/O devices.
  • Effectively leads and manages cross-functional team without direct reporting lines.
  • Able to communicate information strongly, both verbal and written.
  • Able to lead, organize and direct associates.
  • Able to proficiently use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) as well as able to learn new programs as the company expands. 
  • Able to work collaboratively with engineering personnel, maintenance personnel, safety personnel, other departments and Management.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with facility quality assurance-type positions, including considerable use of arms and legs, moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Some work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Some work is performed in a comfortable, indoor, office-like facility. Some work is performed outside of the manufacturing facility. Safety wear is required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, coats and other necessary equipment.
