The Commercial Relationship Manager I is responsible for the development of profitable and desirable client relationships and related business opportunities through the promotion of Stellar Bank’s products, services and overall brand.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- First point of contact for prospective customers and second point of contact for existing customers if supported by a Portfolio Manager and Lending Assistant.
- Overall responsibility for all activities conducted within portfolio including credit risk.
- Directs Credit Analyst, Lending Assistant, and Portfolio Manager to ensure successful results including (but not limited to) improved client experience, compliance and risk mitigation, and increased profitability while upholding Stellar Bank Values.
- Responsible for all prospecting and sales activities to develop a Commercial portfolio of loans, deposits, fee income and treasury sales with the expectation of an increased number of calls and growth goals if supported by a Portfolio Manager.
- Final review and presentation of credit packages to loan committee.
- Manage and ultimately responsible for credit risk in direct portfolio.
- Work with Credit Analyst and/or Portfolio Manager on narrative comments and review overall credit package.
- Risk mitigation activities within total portfolio.
- Compliance with any and all BSA/AML/CFT and Sanctions requirements set forth by Bank Policy and Procedure, including but not limited to timely completion of assigned training.
SECONDARY DUTIES
The position performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned by management. If not supported by a Portfolio Manager, the Lender will:
- Review and analyze trends.
- Conduct annual reviews.
- Administer the monitoring & managing of exceptions.
- Manage maturing loans.
- Manage Anti-Financial Crimes request with customers.
- Review loan documents.
- Work with clients to collect documentation and answer questions during loan underwriting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position is not responsible for the supervision of staff.
ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
The incumbent is in a non-confined office setting in which they are free to move about at will. In the course of performing the duties and responsibilities of this position spends time writing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 25 pounds), sitting, typing on a computer keyboard, and standing, kneeling and reaching.
Travel by motor vehicle is a regular requirement of this position. The incumbent will need to drive within the assigned area in their portfolio to meet with both existing and prospective clients, attend meetings, and engage in other work-related activities. This will require a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and adherence to safe driving practices. The incumbent must be able to navigate city traffic and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and fulfill client appointments.
The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, copy and fax machine, adding machine, computer and related printers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
These specifications are guidelines based on the minimum experience required to perform the essential functions of the job. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related Business field, or equivalent work experience required.
- 3+ years experience in banking relationship management role or related business lending experience; direct in-person contact preferred.
- General knowledge of core business products and services including deposit and Treasury Services.
- Strong understanding of credit products, credit application process, and potential outcomes.
- Ability to build relationships with clients and internal partners and influence others without direct control.
- Ability to identify opportunities and issues by asking targeted questions to assess current client needs and goals.
- Ability to consider and balance client needs and objectives with respect to associated challenges and risks.
- Ability to determine priorities on a daily basis and maintain a balanced work approach to achieve business objectives.
- Understanding of general and sound business practices, financial and economic concepts, accounting, risk, profitability, business law and how business needs vary by industry/market.
- Must possess strong written, credit analysis and verbal communication skills with individuals at all levels, internally and externally.
- Proven track record of consistent loan and deposit production with strong sales acumen.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software.
