Import Coordinator -Axis, Alabama (Onsite)

Job purpose
To coordinate import and transportation activities related to break bulk and container cargoes arrival and departing at various North American ports in support of SSAB’s internal and external customers and departmental and company goals.
Duties and responsibilities
- Receive, review, and manage shipment documentation for cargoes arriving North American ports and terminals
- Review, prepare, and upload inventory files for arriving cargoes
- Identify equipment capacity needs for planned modes of transportation
- Coordinate customs clearance of import and, if applicable, export cargoes
- Plan and coordinate arrival and discharge of cargoes with appropriate port or terminal personnel
- Maintain port, consignee, ship-to, and carrier information in applicable systems; to include, maintaining rates for all port activities and for each carrier and origin/destination pair
- Arrange transportation of material from ports to end customers, processors, or warehouses; to include, arranging and distributing all pre- and post- shipping documentation as required
- Monitor port and/or transportation activities to ensure progress as planned; to include, following up with carriers for problem shipment resolution
- Expedite shipments from port as requested by sales and/or customers, and monitor shipment issues and apprise affected internal and external customers
- Monitor rail shipment waybills for accuracy and ensure cars are secured according to applicable AAR OTLR loading figure; to include monitoring railroad pipeline reports to ensure adequate empty railcar equipment supply
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
- 5+ years of experience performing logistical duties in a production/manufacturing setting
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook); to include, standard logistics software
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Strong analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, able to delegate, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
- Maintains good public relations by displaying an attitude of dedication, courtesy and professional competence that will be recognized as such by customers
- Current/active driver’s license
Working conditions
Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, seminars, and conferences may be required
