SUMMARY:               

The Information Systems and Technology (IST) Adjunct Faculty provides teaching and instruction to South University students and may be involved in curriculum decisions and activities within the IST Department. This is a campus position supporting South Tampa students that requires extensive student contact and engagement, as well as occasional assistance to the IST Department Chair and Program Director with academic initiatives. The Adjunct Faculty collaborates with other faculty and staff members to achieve an excellent overall experience for every student, especially within the graduate programs. In addition to the primary responsibility of teaching at the graduate level, the Adjunct Faculty may be asked to serve as subject matter expert within the assigned discipline and as academic consultant to the IST department leadership. For this position, a competitive candidate should possess a combined academic or professional background in most of the following areas: IT infrastructure, information systems fundamentals, information systems development lifecycle, project management, information systems management, information design and usability, decision support systems, data management, IT audit and control, risk management, and organizational information security. Additionally, credentials in either cybersecurity or Artificial Intelligence are highly desirable to support future growth of the IST graduate programs. (This is a campus-based position NOT remote)

 

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

 

  1. Teaches assigned courses within the qualified discipline
  2. Ensures consistent achievement of effective student outcomes in course success, persistence, retention, and overall graduation. 
  3. Maintains a high level of engagement with each student
  4. Provides and obtains exemplary instructional support for students
  5. Serves as a course content expert
  6. Support the IST Department’s efforts in maintaining courses to ensure learning, currency and persistence goals
  7. Ensures prompt resolutions of academic concerns for students
  8. Coordinates often and effectively with campus student graduation support team
  9. Participates in occasional remote meetings and faculty development opportunities
  10. May have opportunities to support the IST Department’s curriculum development activities by serving as subject-matter expert as needed (not mandatory)
  11. Other academic opportunities as presented by the campus and IST Department academic leadership (not mandatory) 

Requirements:

 

  • A terminal degree in a computer related program, such as computer science, information technology, information systems, computer engineering, or in a closely related discipline from an accredited program/college/university is required.
  • Possess a minimum of five years’ work experience in the teaching discipline/field (desired)
  • Possess experience teaching at the college/university level (preferred)
  • International experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise, either through certification, work experience, or scholarship achievement, in most of the following areas: IT infrastructure, information systems fundamentals, information systems development lifecycle, project management, information systems management, information design and usability, decision support systems, data management, IT audit and control, risk management, and organizational information security. Additionally, credentials or experience in either cybersecurity or Artificial Intelligence are desired.
