SUMMARY: 

This position is responsible for fostering a culture of learning and campus engagement by applying student development theories and learning outcomes that promote students’ academic and personal success, thereby increasing student satisfaction and student retention. The Dean provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for student affairs at an assigned South University Campus as well as promote initiatives that enable the delivery of effective and quality service to students in the following areas: International and Veteran Programs, Disability Services, First Year Experience Support, Student Conduct, Safety and Security Programs, Student Life Programs, Community Engagement and Alumni initiatives. This is done through creating policies, programs and services that support the university’s mission, meet the needs of a diverse campus population, foster student development, career development, and promote student and alumni involvement in campus life. This position provides advice and counsel to campus leadership and other Executive Committee members regarding overall student morale and serves as the primary advocate for the assigned campus student body.

 

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  1. Collaborate with admissions, financial aid, academic support services, faculty, program directors, career services, academic leadership and campus leadership to develop strategies that demonstrate an inclusive and equitable learning community for all students in an effort to positively impact enrollment, retention, and increase student satisfaction.
  2. Supervise Academic Counselors to ensure effective student advising, regular outreach, and proactive engagement with at-risk student populations.
  3. Oversee specialized programming for first year, reinstated, veteran, and international students. Establish, monitor, and report on measureable outcomes of co-curricular activities and early and targeted interventions and remediation initiatives. Coordinate efforts with the Academic Success Center Coordinator to monitor utilization of campus support services and resources. 
  4. Plan, implement, and oversee orientation, student club activities/events, volunteer opportunities, wellness, cultural awareness and safety programming. Coordinate graduation, pinning, and other ceremonies.
  5. Work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing, Outreach Coordinators, Director of Career Services, faculty, and staff to coordinate special program events, campus activities on campus and virtually, promote student participation in community events, and create opportunities for alumni to get involved in campus events; actively promote student life on social media, campus displays, and college publications.
  6. Serve as a point of contact to collect news and noteworthy information campus news, alumni success, faculty spotlights, student testimonials, awards, partnerships, or other highlights, to be utilized for marketing and communication purposes.
  7. Provide leadership and guidance with the analysis, creation, and interpretation of student policies and procedures.
  8. Serve as Title IX Investigator and Chief Conduct Officer for a designated campus, including coordination and supervision of due process procedures as they relate to students’ disruptive behavior and crisis incidents.
  9. Manage support services for with disabilities. Coordinate compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA, institutional processes and procedures and provide on-going training for staff and faculty.
  10. Develop protocols and community-based resources and student support services, including counseling, healthcare and personal needs. Appropriately communicate a comprehensive list of referral resources and intervention mechanisms/programs to appropriate faculty and staff.
  11. Create and coordinate the dissemination of campus reports and publications i.e. Clery Act, RNL Student Satisfaction Survey, Title IX/Student Conduct, Drug Free Schools and Communities, and other student consumer information documents. Ensure compliance of federal, state, and local regulatory standards i.e. FERPA.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Services

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:

  • Five + years of increasingly more responsible experience in student affairs, enrollment management or campus operations
  • Master’s degree in student personnel services or related degree required
  • Knowledge of theories of student development, student engagement, student success and career development
  • Knowledge of current practices in student affairs and higher education to include proper methods and resources for compliance such matters as substance abuse, disabilities covered under ADA, student disciplinary actions and Family Rights and Privacy Act.
  • Minimum of three years of management or leadership in an institution of higher education
  • Good general business knowledge and ability to effectively supervise and lead a staff of professionals.
