SUMMARY:

The Skills and Simulations Operations Coordinator is a Full-time Principal Faculty (rank commensurate with experience) in the Physician Assistant Program and is primarily responsible for skills, simulation operations and coordination within the curriculum. This includes clinical procedures such as ultrasound, objective structure clinical examinations (OSCEs), and technical skills evaluations. The instructor is responsible for coordinating simulation utilization, laboratory daily operation, and schedule. The position’s prime directive is to functionalize the simulated curriculum with the goal of improving measurable participant outcomes.

 

It is expected that a Principal Faculty/Faculty Instructor will be effective in the areas of course design, course delivery, and evaluation. The Principal Faculty/Faculty Instructor is instrumental in assisting the program to ensure that students consistently meet the program’s learning outcomes to achieve the competencies required for PA practice. The Principal Faculty/Faculty Instructor is guided by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education and the Program Director in assisting the program with curriculum assessment and meeting the ARC-PA accreditation standards.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  1. Serves as simulator operator by programming, testing, running scenarios, and debriefing with instructors, facilitators, and students.
  2. Coordinate all clinical procedural Training skills sessions/laboratories/OSCEs.
  3. Understands and utilizes a variety of available resources including anatomic models, task trainers, computer-based simulations, virtual reality, and medium to high fidelity simulators.
  4. Contributes to the creation of realistic learning environments using a variety of tools, clinical equipment, and moulage techniques.
  5. Organize and design instructional materials to support the teaching delivery and assessment for each simulation/laboratory session.
  6. Assure each session includes the appropriate goals, objectives, case scenarios, and assessments to support the curriculum.
  7. Create, manage, and organize various courses/scenarios/evaluations/data produced to support the education, assessments, and grades related to the simulations/labs and for remediations archived on the digital platform.
  8. Review and report educational outcomes for simulation, OSCEs, and clinical procedural activities for continuous curricular improvement.
  9. Provide support to the Department Chair in the development of policies and procedures related to curriculum and assessment for simulation/laboratory education and the maintenance of curricular materials including a method for continued review and updates.
  10. Develop and maintain expertise in the programming knowledge of the state-of-the-art technology to support simulation.
  11. Provide faculty development sessions for South University faculty/staff as related to simulation, OSCEs, and laboratory clinical procedural education.
  12. Create, implement, and validate a remediation process for students with deficiencies.
  13. Identifies and communicates ongoing maintenance, need for replacements, and facilitates new purchases. Interfaces with equipment vendors regarding troubleshooting and systems problems.
  14. Ensures labs and classrooms are organized and prepared for teaching sessions by conducting routine inventory and maintaining accurate electronic inventory of supplies, equipment, and updates.
  15. Participates in accreditation and admissions activities, as well as ongoing program evaluation and mission statement review.
  16. Engages in service, community and campus relations, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of a Principal Faculty (Full-time) member.
  17. Participates in faculty development opportunities each year as required in the areas of simulations, OSCEs, and clinical procedural skills.
  18. Assists with other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director, Department Chair, and/or the Campus Dean of Academic Affairs.
  19. Performs duties as assigned and outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Terminal Degree in healthcare disciplines such as physician assistant, pharmacy, nursing, paramedic. Minimum of a Master’s degree is required. 
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline as applicable.
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience in a graduate health-related profession highly preferred; 2 years of clinical experience required, if applicable.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
  • PAs must have current NCCPA certification.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, ExamSoft, and WebAdMIT.
