System Administrator
About the Position
The System Administrator will be responsible for administering, troubleshooting, and maintaining site-level servers, both physical and virtual. The candidate must be able to coordinate and perform system backups, hardware installation, software installation, and system upgrades. They must continuously monitor all systems to ensure that acceptable levels of performance and availability are maintained. They must have excellent communication skills, maintain high standards of conduct and discipline, and ensure that all subordinates are adequately trained to perform assigned tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operating and maintaining all aspects of server administration for both physical and virtualized systems (Windows and various Linux Distros).
- Possessing proven experience working in a distributed computing environment.
- Architecting, designing, and supporting Directory Services Infrastructure.
- Designing, installing, and administering virtualization (VMware Infrastructure: ESXi Hosts, vCenter, Resource Pools, vMotion, etc.).
- Managing Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) or Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
- Following and applying configuration and security standards and policies within a defined Change Management process.
- Implementing common preventive maintenance practices for hardware and software.
- Ensuring that system improvements and changes are implemented correctly and completely and monitoring all effects of the modifications.
- Establishing/recommending policies on system use and services.
- Analyzing system logs, identifying potential issues with systems, and implementing resolutions.
- Writing scripts to automate routine day-to-day tasks (PowerShell, Python, etc.).
- Being proficient at hardware maintenance and troubleshooting of various vendor server platforms including Dell, HP, LTO tape library, fiber switch, and SANs.
- Replacing and upgrading defective or outdated components when necessary. Must be able to provide purchasing recommendations for replacement systems and components.
- Documenting any processes that employees need to follow to successfully work within our computing system.
- Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly.
- Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely (SolarWinds SAM and SEM).
- Demonstrating excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Maintaining a patient and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude.
- Being available outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues.
- Performing other duties and assignments as required.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred, or equivalent experience in MIS, IS, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- At least seven (7) years of practical experience working in an operational environment with a minimum of one year focused on information systems, auditing, evaluation assessments and reporting.
- The System Administrator is required to be an expert in all functions of both IAT Level I and IAT Level II positions relating to a Windows Server operating system environment.
- The System Administrator must be able to apply extensive knowledge of a variety of the IA field’s concepts, practices, and procedures to ensure the secure integration and operation of all enclave systems (Primarily Commercial, potentially NIPR, SIPR as well).
- Must be able to rely on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals for the enclave environment.
- Must meet DoD 8570.01-M Certification Requirements. System Administrator must have at least one (1) baseline certification and one (1) computing environment (CE) certification.

- The baseline certification includes the following: CompTIA Security + CE, Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security), CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+), GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
- The Computing Environment (CE) certifications may include but are not limited to the following: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM), or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
- Strong documentation, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to visualize quantitative (numerical) or qualitative information.
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, communicating, and briefing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others, set the example for others to follow, and demonstrate initiative, customer service, and attitude.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License from the United States.
The System Administrators are required to maintain an active security clearance at all times while working on this subcontract.
