Electronic Maintenance Technician I
The Electronic Maintenance Technician I applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve problems. This technician works under immediate supervision and achieves technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Interprets manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents to solve routine problems.
- Performs work that requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequences, in selecting tools and testing instruments.
- Follows procedures, regulations, and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
- Make regular rounds of equipment areas, reading meters and gauges, and adjusting controls.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance, routine repair, modification, and troubleshooting and calibration.
- Take test readings using common instruments such as digital multi-meters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, and oscilloscopes.
- Under supervision, operate, maintain and repair electronic and computer systems such as clocks, closed circuit TVs, automatic fire alarms, security, energy management systems; apply safety procedures in the course of work.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Responds to emergency calls after normal work hours.
- Frequent travel between facilities is required.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve problems
Working Environment: Work is performed at a customer’s location in an office/shop environment and on job sites, in a construction environment with various tools and construction equipment. Technicians are exposed to hot and cold climate, depending on external weather conditions.
Physical Activities:
- Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time.
- Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping
- May lift or move boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Climbing ladders
- Working in confined spaces.
- Exposure to toxic substances.
- Exposure to risk of electrical shock.
- Exposure to wind, rain, cold, and heat.
- Noise from equipment in construction environment.
Education or Equivalent:
Requires a high school diploma, GED, trade school coursework or apprenticeship
Preferred vocational training or higher degree of study/diploma in the electronic field.
License:
Valid driver’s license required for this position at most locations. Must maintain an acceptable driving record while in this position. Must meet local, state and/or federal requirements for licensing or certification.
NICET Level I and Level II Fire Alarm Systems Certification required
Knowledge/Skills Requirement:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience/knowledge working, understanding and knowledge of electronic theory, electrical principle and laws, and schematic reading.
- Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Ability to estimate time and materials and manage resources.
- Demonstrates organizational, problem-solving and common-sense skills.
- Customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests; and escalate the more difficult matters appropriately.
- Communication skills to provide procedural and factual information, and to follow instructions. Flexibility to build effective working relationships with staff, customers and others.
- Ability to travel to various facilities, and to work independently and as a team.
