(SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.

Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

Buyer

As a key and highly visible member of the RBU you will concentrate your efforts on cost reduction from our current qualified list of vendors to ensure that SMP is procuring our products at the optimal price, quality and delivery mix.

Expected Duties and responsibilities:

• Become extremely familiar with our cost for all purchased parts.
• Negotiate with the current supply to assure SMP is getting the absolute best pricing.
• Review our vendor base for other potential vendors that could supply the same parts.
• Create bid list for categories of parts to assure SMP is getting the best possible mix from the best supplier.

• Actively participates in working towards process improvements, systems improvements and enhanced procedures.

Requirements:

• Associate or Bachelors college degree with 5 or more years’ experience in a related position.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, Access and Project Management.  An assessment test will be administered to all candidates.
• APICS/CPIM certifications or training a plus.
• Ability to multi-task and work independently or in a team environment.
• Excellent organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with strong problem-solving skills
