Simon & Schuster seeks a Subsidiary Rights Assistant to support the department. Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills are necessary. Applicants should be highly organized and be able to see each task through with close attention to detail. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in Subsidiary Rights and previous experience in book publishing (including internships). Responsibilities include:

  • Identify backlist titles with new sales potential
  • Run reports to identify foreign and domestic licenses that are up for renewals
  • Help with submissions (pitch letters, cover art, blurbs, etc)
  • Prepare rights guides for Frankfurt and London book fairs
  • Respond to incoming rights requests
  • Research trends in audio, book club and international publishing
  • Generate a monthly subsidiary rights newsletter to promote our books to international publishers, book clubs, co-agents, and scouts
  • Negotiate file fees and provide production files to licensees
  • Chase overdue payments (foreign and domestic)

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
