Simon Maverick, a new audio-first imprint of Simon & Schuster, is looking for an organized, self-starter who will work in an editorial and marketing capacity supporting the Editorial Director and a Senior Editor, while being able to have a direct role in the publication of Simon Maverick titles. This role will provide an opportunity to learn extensive acquisitions and marketing skills.
Publishing responsibilities include helping supervise and shepherd titles through the production pipeline, which involves coordinating with production, scheduling publication dates, drafting P&Ls and contract proposals, drafting and editing tip sheets, reading submissions, and more.
On the marketing side the assistant will contribute to Simon Maverick’s social media outreach, including but not limited to post preparation and scheduling, responding to readers, researching and creating social media influencer databases, and creating content for Maverick’s feeds. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator, able to juggle tasks under deadline pressure, and eager to wear multiple hats within a nascent and fast-growing imprint.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with Editorial Director and a Senior Editor to maintain schedule for Simon Maverick titles, keeping the pipeline of materials flowing to production, and working with authors to schedule publication and promotion
• Create P&Ls and contract proposals for title acquisition
• Circulate manuscripts to production, publicity, marketing, and subrights
• Handle general administrative responsibilities for the Editorial Director and Senior Editor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Relevant experience or internships in editorial, marketing, or publicity
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet quick deadlines
• Ability to keep track of numerous projects in varying stages of development, each with different production and publication needs
• Superb verbal and written communication skills
• Awareness of the current publishing marketplace is a plus, as is a general enthusiasm for audiobooks.
• Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and general computer skills

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
