Position Summary
Position requires a dynamic, passionate, and user-oriented individual to serve as the Business and Instruction Librarian. The position will provide specialized research assistance, instruction, and collection development for all business and economics related departments within the Welch College of Business & Technology. This role involves collaborating with faculty, supporting student research, and enhancing the library's business resources. This position is also a key member of the Research & Learning Support team and will work closely with the team to provide instruction and reference support to the broader SHU community. Early-career librarians and recent MLIS grads are encouraged to apply.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists students, faculty, and staff with research inquiries, including data analysis, market research, and business information retrieval.
- Develop and deliver instructional sessions on business research methods, information literacy, and the use of business databases.
- Assists with collection development and management of the library's business collections and databases.
- Works closely with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support course-specific research needs.
- Promote library services and resources to the Welch college community through workshops, seminars, and consultations.
- Utilize and promote the use of digital tools and resources for business research and data analysis.
- Stays current with trends in business librarianship, AACSB library standards, and participates in relevant professional organizations and conferences.
- Serves on library committees.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes
Required Skills:
- ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science.
- Experience providing research support and instruction in an academic setting.
- Familiarity with emerging trends in business education and research.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Additional degree or coursework in business, economics, or a related field.
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools.
- Knowledge of assessment methods to evaluate library resources and services.
- Understanding of AACSB standards in relationship to library resources.
