Assistant/ Associate Clinical Director- Department of Counselor Education
The Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development(FCEHD) at Sacred Heart University (SHU) invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, twelve (12)-month appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Clinical Director. The successful candidate will serve as a core faculty member for FCEHD's online master's degree programs in the department of Counselor Education. The department includes online master’s degrees in clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Higher Education and Student Affairs as well as an Advanced Certificate in Play Therapy. The Assistant/Associate Clinical Director position will require an innovative, self-sufficient, and critical thinker who can work within a collaborative online environment. The successful candidate will teach clinical courses and may teach other core courses depending on departmental needs. This position will support the Counselor Education Department.

Position Summary:
The Clinical Director is a member of the full-time core faculty (rank commensurate with experience) and oversees the practicum and internship portion of the Counselor Education program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to classroom instruction, selection of student clinical sites and placements, monitoring students in group supervision classes, investigating agencies for qualifying criteria, meeting with site supervisors, serving as liaison between the University and clinical agencies, responding to inquiries regarding practicum and internship, and ensuring CACREP standards and the SHU Mission and Vision are upheld in all areas of the program. The Clinical Director engages in professional associations, businesses, and the local community as necessary to promote the visibility and stature of the program. The Clinical Director will additionally teach four clinical courses each year and may teach other courses, depending on departmental needs.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Serves as campus practicum and internship coordinator for the Counselor Education Department.
- Responds to all inquiries related to practicum and internship from current students, prospective students, and all current and potential community placement sites.
- Performs instructional duties as assigned and outlined in the Faculty job description and in accordance with the faculty handbook.
- Collects data for Key Performance Indicators, submits quarterly student evaluation forms for all students, and participates in formal evaluation of students as indicated in the Graduate Student Handbook and Clinical Handbook.
- Participates in faculty development each year as required.
- Designs and delivers class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, create activities that support lesson objectives, and deliver the instruction as approved.
- Prepares state specific forms for course and degree verification.
- Trains develops, manages, and leads faculty according to the guidelines provided by the Department Chair, and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University/Campus and CACREP.
- Enables the achievement of pre-described exit competencies for student achievement and evaluation of learning by providing instruction that fosters competencies and establishes student performance criteria and evaluation.
- Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement, as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
- Manages the learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
- Contributes to a learning culture by participating in curriculum and system task forces, supporting events such as orientation and graduation, and participating in various other workshops and meetings.
- Establish and coordinate all student rotations through clinical sites, serve as liaison between the Counselor Education Department and the site, and foster the development of clinical programs and faculty.
- Collaborates Department Chair and Program Directors concerning scheduling, sharing faculty, curriculum, and other issues to support student learning and facilitate efficient resource use.
- Facilitates the submission of required programmatic reports and documentation, including graduation rates, program assessment, performance on state licensing or certification examinations, and employment rates.
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Dean and Chair of the Department.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and collaborate to identify and solve problems and engage in program improvement.
- Demonstrate the skills and ability to organize the work of self and others.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Design, develop, and teach courses for the online master's programs in counseling.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in employing best practices in the assessment of student learning and academic program outcomes.
- Demonstrate the ability to engage graduate students and community partners.
- Demonstrate knowledge of state licensure and program approval processes for counseling and related programs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of national accreditation processes for counseling and related programs (e.g., CACREP).
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain and organize regulatory and compliance documentation, reports, and other metrics using electronic media.
- Demonstrate the ability to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- Demonstrate computer proficiency with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrate knowledge of counseling privacy and other protocols including HIPPA, HITECH, FERPA, and state/district policies, as they apply to student records and field experiences.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision (CACREP Accredited).
- Possesses state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or equivalent.
- Possesses state credential as a clinical supervisor or at the national level (e.g., Approved Clinical Supervisor [ACS]).
- Prior experience in clinical placement.
- Prior experience in teaching, research, and leadership.
- Demonstrates a strong professional counseling identity and commitment to the counseling profession.
- Demonstrate potential to teach in online graduate-level programs and supervise counselors-in-training utilizing a variety or technological tools/platforms.
- Actively promote a collegial environment and consciously apply our mission and values to create a culture of inclusion and belonging; a safe space where all may thrive and succeed.
