Position Summary
The Director of Community Standards supports Sacred Heart University’s commitment to a developmental process that balances the interests of individual students with the safety and needs of the University community to educate students through their decision-making. Reporting to the Executive Director of Community Standards/Title IX Coordinator, the Director serves as a hearing officer for Student Code of Conduct cases and oversees the Student Code of Conduct policies and procedures.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the oversight of the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Student Code of Conduct
- Manage cases for allegations of non-academic policy violations for the university: oversee case creation, adjudication, and maintenance for incidents that occur both on- and off-campus
- Serve as an appeal hearing officer for cases first heard by the Office of Residence Life
- Collaborate with the university’s Supervisor of Investigations to investigate allegations of policy violations by students and student organizations
- Utilize case management system to monitor students’ progression and successful completion of assigned cases
- Create regular prevention and educational programming for campus community regarding university policies and procedures
- Develop and implement developmental sanctions such as restorative practices, drug and alcohol education, and reflection
- Collaborate with conduct hearing officers to determine alleged violations of policy and determine sanctions within institutional guidelines
- Lead weekly Incident Review Team meeting with members from across the university to review cases and ensure that all are being appropriately addressed
- Conduct a yearly review and revision process of the Student Handbook
- Assist with training of Residential Life staff in incident handling, hearing procedures, and use of Maxient system
- Collaborate with university partners including but not limited to Residence Life, Public Safety, Counseling, and Title IX
- Develop and maintain media for Office of Student Conduct including website and social media
- Advise students in IFC, Panhellenic, and Student Government judicial positions
- Serve in the absence of the Executive Director when appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling or related field strongly preferred
- Experience working with students in a higher education setting
- Experience adjudicating student conduct cases in the university setting
- Understanding of FERPA, Clery and other laws pertaining to student conduct issues
- Experience with Maxient software preferred
- Interpersonal and organizational skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to interpret, analyze, apply, and communicate University policies, procedures, and practices
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion
Unusual Working Conditions
Some nights and weekends may be required throughout the semester.
