Position Summary
The Sacred Heart University Department of Club Sports and Recreation is seeking a Head Coach for its Men’s Lacrosse team. The Head Coach will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of players, practice preparation, game-day coaching, and other administrative duties for the team. This part-time position will run from October 1st until April 30th of each academic year.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the recruitment of prospective students who will meet University admission standards.
- Be responsible for all league-required paperwork, as well as understanding all rules associated.
- Foster and enhance relationships with other coaches.
- Responsible for the retention of all team members, particularly first-year students, and ensuring their transition into college is seamless.
- Work with the Club Sports staff to develop a cohesive program and highlight those via social media and the Club Sports website.
- Develop a recruitment plan beyond the upcoming season.
- Will create and implement a weekly practice plan to ensure all team members are prepared for competition.
- The coach should demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Prepare, plan, and coordinate practice schedules each week and provide proper and high-end instruction to student-athletes.
- Work with the Athletic Training staff and Strength and Conditioning staff on player safety and development.
- Oversee all game day responsibilities, including game planning, transportation, and game roster.
- Work closely with the Director of Club Sports and Recreation on the preparation of the season, schedule, and recruitment.
- Responsible for recruitment and retention of club lacrosse student-athletes.
- Manage coaching staff and student manager staff as hired by the Head Coach.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the league.
- Other duties assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the high school, prep, junior, or collegiate level.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends as the vast majority of games are Friday-Sunday.
- Possess experience working with diverse staff, including college-age students.
- Must maintain coaching certification or be willing to acquire certification.
