Position Summary

Responsible for assisting with the organization and administration of the Sacred Heart University dance team. This includes assisting the head coach by implementing and executing all scheduling, practices, travel arrangements, game day presentations/events, and community service events. 

This is a part-time seasonal position. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting the head coach with recruiting potential dance team candidates to meet roster commitments and helping to conduct tryouts. 
  • Responsible for helping maintain a safe practice environment and running practices that highlight the performance and safety goals of the program. 
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the Department of Athletics Policies and Procedures Manual annually. 
  • Will help head coach ensure enforcement of NCAA, MAAC, Sacred Heart University, and NDA guidelines. 
  • Responsible for executing plans developed with the head coach to implement all public performances for the team and mascot.  Performances include student participation, enthusiasm, and positive crowd involvement at athletic contests.
  • Will assist with, coordinate, and administer fund-raising opportunities for the dance team within the Sacred Heart Department of Athletics guidelines. 
  • Be familiar with processes to order supplies, uniforms, etc. 
  • Assist with the development of competitive and non-competitive game-only teams over time.  Help train competition team to compete in regional competitions, and ultimately to compete at Daytona nationals annually.
  • Potential to help organize and assist with dance clinics at the University.
  • Responsible for following the latest strength and conditioning techniques. 
  • Perform other duties as requested by the head coach or assigned.  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work in a competitive environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience in crowd-leading, dance, choreography, mascot training, and dance techniques. 
  • Impeccable integrity with a thorough commitment to compliance with NCAA rules and regulations is imperative. 
  • Must possess excellent communication skills,
  • Must be a positive motivator and demonstrate leadership, organizational ability, and success in team building. 
  • Must follow all NCAA, MAAC, and Sacred Heart University rules with regard to student-athlete welfare.

Unusual Working Conditions

Work at assigned athletic events on evenings, weekends, and occasional out-of-town events and functions.
