Overview: SHRM’s Brand and Marketing Division is looking for a Senior Specialist, Executive Content ,to craft compelling, high-value content that elevates SHRM’s influence with senior executives. Reporting to the Lead, Executive Content, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping SHRM’s thought leadership, writing for the People+Strategy Brief e-newsletter, the quarterly People + Strategy journal, and supporting the production of the People+Strategy podcast. You’ll also contribute to SHRM’s Executive Network website and other outlets as needed, ensuring content reaches and resonates with key decision-makers.  

SHRM offers a hybrid work schedule—three days per week in our Alexandria, Va., office and two days working remotely.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Create high-value content on a range of people-centric business topics for a discerning audience of business executives. 
  • Assist in developing SHRM’s executive content strategy, including contributing ideas for content and programming. 
  •  Support cross-functional initiatives by collaborating with Sales, Marketing, and Communications teams to align content with business objectives. 
  • Assist the Lead in administering the workflow processes and executive content calendar. 
  • Use online tools—including Adobe Experience Manager, to post content online and create/send a weekly e-newsletter that meets the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, engagement, and adherence to SHRM style guidelines. 
  • Assist in the creation and production of each quarterly print edition of People + Strategy, the premier journal for CHROs and HR executives. This includes brainstorming content ideas, collaborating with outside contributors, editing content, posting articles on SHRM’s Executive Network (EN) website and producing the digital edition of the journal. 
  • Assist in the creation and production of the People+Strategy Brief newsletter, which includes identifying appropriate content/sources, posting articles online, selecting photos for articles, and creating research charts/summaries.  
  • Assist in the creation and production of the People+Strategy Brief podcast, including booking guests, collaborating with the production team, researching, and performing other off-air tasks. 
  • Write occasional content for various other SHRM publications as time allows. 
  • Stay abreast of business trends, news and topics that are relevant to executives. 
  • Occasional travel as needed to cover SHRM conferences and other HR- or executive-related conferences and to report articles.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, or a related field. 
  • 5 years of writing and editing experience, preferably for business publications aimed at an executive audience. 
  • Familiarity with content marketing best practices in a B2B environment. 
  • Experience working with Sales, Marketing and Communications professionals to advance critical organizational goals. 
  • Digital production experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience with content management systems. 
  • Experience working with a wide range of multimedia and social media elements. 
  • Experience creating and managing schedules and managing editorial production.  

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content that resonates with a diverse audience of HR leaders and business decision-makers. 
  • Passion for storytelling, curiosity about business topics, and a desire to stay informed about industry trends and developments. 
  • Creativity and a willingness to take on and develop new projects. 
  • A strong grasp of content marketing fundamentals and B2B sales funnels. 
  • Familiarity with digital media tools, content management systems (Adobe Experience Manager preferred), project management tools (Monday.com preferred), and basic multimedia storytelling techniques. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to shifting priorities. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in successful project management. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Capable of performing essential duties with reasonable accommodations. 
  • Work involves sitting, talking, hearing, and typing, with visual acuity required for keyboard usage, data analysis, and computer terminal operation. 
  • Occasional light lifting may be necessary. 

 

Work Environment: 

  • Work is primarily conducted in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment. 
  • Expected office presence of 3 days per week. 
  • Minimal travel requirements, less than 10%.

The hiring range for this position is $80,000 to $98,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
