Engineer Sales II
Job Summary:
The Sales Engineer is responsible for designing and recommending complex data network and voice network solutions for Shentel customers. Responsibilities include providing technical information and engineering support to the Shentel Sales team, communicating with customers about Shentel products and services, and developing an understanding of the customer’s business requirements in order to recommend solutions that exceed a customer’s requirements. Additional responsibilities include providing input for RFPs/RFIs by producing network designs, diagrams, and technical responses and tracking project cost and managing each project through project completion.
Qualification Requirements:
Education: BS in a relevant engineering or technology field preferred. Other candidates with a strong technical background and substantial industry or military experience will be considered.
Experience Level:
• 5 or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry is required
• 2 or more years of Sales Engineering or consulting support with a focus on data and voice communications in a position working directly with customers
Special Requirements:
• VCCNA, CCDA, or similar certifications preferred, but not required
• Strong project management experience

• Demonstrated strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Knowledge of:
• Fiber Networks (outside plant, network equipment, CPE)
• Access networks (FTTH, DSL, DOCSIS, Metro Ethernet)
• Transport technologies (Ethernet, optical networking, IP routing/networking)
• Routing & Switching (MPLS, VPN’s, layer 2/3 QOS, VLAN, ISIS, BGP, and HSRP)
• Voice network technologies and protocols (traditional telephone and VoIP)
• Head End network technologies (HE optics, nodes, actives, passives, STB’s, digital headend equipment, etc.)
