HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Senior Mechanic under general supervision performs skilled mechanical repair and maintenance on large buses (diesel and gasoline), rams, vehicles, and other equipment. This position reports to the Transportation Supervisor.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Perform automotive electrical and welding work
- Perform tune-ups and servicing
- Diagnose mechanical defects on buses, trams, trucks, vans, automobiles, and other mechanical equipment
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems
- Make necessary repairs, such as overhauls, tune-ups, adjusting and repairing transmissions, replacing and adjusting bearings, adjusting ignitions and carburetors, and relining and adjusting brakes
- Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil changes
- Repair suspension systems
- Repair vehicle air-conditioning systems
- Order and stocks consumable parts (i.e. oil filter/air filter)
- Make emergency road calls
- Keep simple records
- Make body and fender repairs and painting
- Perform arc and gas welding
- Tune engines using standard testing equipment
- Contacts parts dealers and orders needed parts and supplies
- Maintains shop in clean, safe and orderly condition
- Adhere to all SDZWA and department policies and practices
- Model for punctuality and professionalism
- Exemplify the highest standard of work ethics
- Perform consistently above organization performance standards
- Perform work from elevations, up to 90 feet in height
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- JOB EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years’ experience in automotive electrical repair and maintenance
- EDUCATION AND CERFICATIONS
- An example of which would be one or more year’s journey-level experience in automotive and electrical repair and maintenance
- Skyride maintenance experience desirable
- Valid California driver license in good standing is required
- SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Principles of internal combustion engines
- Methods, tools, material and equipment used in the maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment
- Effective customer relations skills
- Effective leadership skills
- Determine mechanical defects and make necessary repairs
- Use standard automotive shop tools and equipment
- Use various types of electrical and automotive test equipment
- Distinguish color-coded wiring and monitor engine sounds
- Communicate and work effectively with others
- Deal tactfully and courteously with the others
- Respond to cautions from co-workers
- Operate motorized equipment and vehicles
