PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Construction and Maintenance Worker II under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, construction, alteration, remodeling and repair of Organization buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds; and performs related work as required. This position reports to the Lead Construction and Maintenance Worker or C&M Supervisor/Manager.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties of moderate difficulty in the maintenance, repair and construction of Organization buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment.
- Adheres to all SDZWA and department policies and practices.
- Positions work in one or several of the following craft areas:
- Plumbing/Sprinkler and Irrigation Systems
- Repairs and installs sprinkler and irrigation systems.
- Installs and repairs water lines.
- Prepares pipe and fittings for installation.
- Assures plumbing tools and equipment are properly maintained and in safe working order.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and services sprinkler system.
- Equipment Operation
- Operates and drives a variety of light duty motorized vehicles, such as trucks.
- Services, cleans and maintains equipment.
- Cement/Masonry
- Breaks out concrete or asphalt using hand and/or pneumatic tools.
- Assists other maintenance and construction workers as required.
- Electrical
- Installs, trouble-shoots, and makes repairs to motors, lighting circuits, electrical control equipment, transformers, conduit and duct systems, electrical appliances, and other types of electrical lighting and power equipment.
- Checks circuits and performs electrical repair of heating and communication equipment.
- Interprets electrical plans, diagrams, and specifications.
- Keeps records and prepares reports of work done and materials used.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Ideal candidate will have prior experience in plumbing and understanding building and trades.
- JOB EXPERIENCE
- Prior commercial landscape irrigation work experience desired
- EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- California Journey Level Certification renewed every 3 years OR
- C-36 Plumbing license, renewed every 2 years.
- California General Electrician Certification renewed every 3 years OR
- C-10 Electrical License renewed every 2 years.
- Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing
- Must present an examination certificate as evidence of qualifications. SDZWA will reimburse the reasonable cost, up to $100, of Journey Level Plumbing or California General Electrician Certification examinations on submission of receipt, provided employees pass the examination.
- SCHEDULE
- At least 3 closing shifts per week (employees on site until at least published park/zoo closing time).
- Saturdays and Sundays.
