HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Roar & Snore Safari Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's Roar & Snore Safari overnight camping operation, and certain other premium guest experience operations. The Supervisor leads and oversees staff, monitors program performance, ensures the program facilities are properly maintained, assists in developing and improving the guest experience, and supervises events in progress, among other duties. This position reports to the Safari Experiences Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Leads direct reports and provides a welcoming environment that promotes a team-centered workplace. Supports team in areas of performance management and training and development.
  • Oversees daily operations for assigned premium experience area(s), including monitoring and planning inventory and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as labor and revenue to maximize profits.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels to meet daily operational needs for assigned area(s), including hiring, training, and scheduling staff. Seasonally adjusts schedule matrixes, manages time off requests, makes schedule adjustments, and projects seasonal needs.
  • Coordinates all necessary resources to execute premium experiences; including staffing, equipment, transportation, and program locations while ensuring that team members feel supported and our experiences exceed guests' expectations. Accountable for oversight of all Roar & Snore facility needs including campground, tents, and furnishings. Trains and assigns staff to perform maintenance tasks, and collaborates with Facilities, Horticulture, and other departments on a regular basis to ensure facilities are always maintained in good condition.
  • Assists in planning, developing, and evaluating premium guest experience programs. Assists with developing and administering budget(s).
  • Leads and mentors team members, developing their ability to connect and inspire guests to SDZWA’s conservation efforts.
  • Supervises events in progress, including late evening and early morning components. This includes overseeing staff, responding to operational and emergency issues, and ensuring exceptional guest service standards are maintained.
  • Supports guest recovery situations and proactively monitors program quality to ensure customer relations issues are minimized.

The successful  candidate will have a passion for overnight guest experiences, including working late nights and early mornings; be a team-centered leader who supports, mentors, and develops team members; and have a demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate resources to deliver outstanding guest experiences. 


JOB EXPERIENCE

  • 1+ years experience supervising staff required. In a theme-park, hospitality, zoo, customer service setting preferred.
  • Coursework in hospitality, recreation, science/education, or related field; or equivalent specialized training or commensurate experience.
  • Experience working in overnight camping programs preferred, particularly in a zoo, aquarium, or theme park (especially in a leadership role).
  • Experience working with diverse groups of guests, preferably including school, youth group, and recreation groups; using and teaching behavior management skills and techniques.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Coursework in communication, business administration, hospitality management, or a related field; or equivalent specialized training or commensurate experience preferred. 
  • Valid California driver's license in good standing

  • Ability to lead a team 
  • Must possess superior customer relations skills 
  • Able to monitor and schedule resources 
  • Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs 
  • Able to work effectively within a team in a diverse environment
