Cross Connection Inspector

JOB SUMMARY:
The Cross-Connection Inspector is responsible for the inspection, enforcement and reporting requirements of State of Connecticut regulations pertaining to all existing or potential distribution system cross-connections with a non-potable source. Protect the more than 450,000 consumers within the Authority’s service territory from potential adverse health effects resulting from any cross-connection in the distribution system.
Responsibilities:
- Enforce CTDPH regulations regarding real or potential cross-connection.
- Inspect consumer premises as outlined in the Public Health Code. Identify, report and follow up on potential or actual cross-connection violations; provide advice and guidance on proper corrective procedures to property owners or responsible parties.
- Perform annual testing of known backflow prevention devices within the RWA service territory.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual cross-connection report to the CTDPH.
- Reviews drawings and construction plans to ensure proper backflow prevention devices are included in all new construction or renovation work where required by the Public Health Code and/or local, state plumbing codes.
- Assist in water quality investigation where backflow incidents or cross-connection violations are suspected.
- Collect data and maintains thorough inspection and testing records.
- Schedule inspection and re-inspection.
- Other duties as necessary to accomplish the mission, vision, and values of our organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirements:
- High school or trade school diploma or its equivalent.
- Currently holds a licensed plumber license – P2 Journeyman.
- Commercial experience is desired.
Experience/Skills/Abilities:
- Connecticut Cross-Connection Backflow Preventer Tester Certification within 1 year of employment.
- Connecticut Cross-Connection Surveyor Certification within 1 year of employment.
- Working knowledge of local, state plumbing and building codes; water distribution systems.
- Excellent leadership, management, written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills. Ability to lead teams, multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to obtain a CT Distribution Class 3 Operator certification within 3 years.
- Independent problem solver with ability to succeed.
- Ability to display strong leadership in a team environment.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-changing environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, SmartSheet, GIS

Physical / Mental Job Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and able to travel within RWA’s service area up to 100% of the time.
- This position requires on call which means taking calls off-hours in evenings, on weekends or 24x7.
- This position will also require sitting for long periods of time, walking, standing, bending, and walking, as well as using fine motor skills, such as finger dexterity for typing.
- This position could be exposed to loud noises, frequent phone conversations, and requires average to above average visual acuity and hearing.
- Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold/hot temperatures.
